Delhi court convicts four persons guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): A Delhi court on Monday pronounced four people guilty in 1975 LN Mishra murder case. Mishra was former railway minister and was murdered at a function in Bihar nearly 40 years ago. The court has fixed December 15 for hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment. All four have been taken in custody. Over 200 witnesses, including 161 prosecution witnesses and more than 40 defence witnesses, were examined in the case. The accused had earlier approached the Supreme Court for quashing of the trial against them in the murder case. The apex court had on August 17, 2012 dismissed their pleas on the ground that the proceedings could not be quashed merely because they had not been concluded in the last 37 years. Dec 8, 2014

Russian Ambassador to India says Russia will not to anything to threaten India's security

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Russian Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin said on Monday that Russia and India share a strategic partnership and Russia will not do anything to threaten India's security. Kadakin explained that it is providing civilian helicopters to Pakistan, which will not harm India in any way. Delhi Rape Case: Protests continue in national capital even as govt bans Uber cab services

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Series of protests continue to take place across the national capital over Delhi rape case even as Uber cab services have been banned in Delhi by the government. Members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) staged protest outside police headquarters demanding action against the accused. Brinda Karat after meeting Police Commissioner BS Basssi said that she was assured by Bassi in the case. Aam Aadmi Party members also staged protest outside the residence of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and demanded action over the matter and steps for safety of women on Delhi streets. Earlier, Uber cab services issued a statement, wherein it said that "what happened over the weekend in New Delhi is horrific. Our entire team hearts go out to the victim of this despicable crime. Will do everything, to help bring this perpetrator to justice and to support the victim and her family in her recovery. Parliament logjam ends after Government agrees to Opposition resolution

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): After a week of Parliament logjam, Rajya Sabha ended the impasse over Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's controversial remarks on Monday after Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari intervened. Rajya Sabha resumed normal functioning during Question Hour after the Government and the opposition leaders agreed to a compromise formula to end the protests. Following the compromise, Ansari made a fresh appeal to "all members of Parliament, ministers and leaders of all political parties to maintain civility at all costs in public discourse". Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu confirming the development said that the impasse over the minister's remark has ended after RS chairperson's intervention and appealed the opposition leaders to co-operate with the government. Tourists throng Shimla for ice skating

Shimla, Dec 08 (ANI): Tourists from different states thronged Shimla city in Himachal Pradesh and enjoyed ice skating. Visitors who could not see snowfall in hill town of Kufri enjoyed ice skating as a swimming pool of an amusement park was turned into an ice rink. One of the organisers, Nishant Nag, said that tourists were getting disappointed as the region was not witnessing snowfall for past few years. AIIMS student hangs herself in hostel room

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): A 20-year-old student AIIMS student committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room at the institute. According to the reports, the girl was depressed over her relations with the hostel superintendent and other staff at the AIIMS. Victim's friend and family alleged that the warden and the class teacher used to torture her because of which she committed suicide. Students staged protest outside the director's bungalow on Monday morning. Police is investigating the case and postmortem report of the dead body is awaited. Dec 8, 2014

Political parties react as Sushma Swaraj pushes for declaring Bhagwad Gita as 'national scripture'

New Delhi/ Mumbai, Dec 08 (ANI): Political parties on Monday reacted as Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj urged that the Bhagwad Gita should be declared a 'national scripture', adding that only a formal announcement to this effect was pending. Although Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that there is nothing wrong on the same and truth should be accepted by all, other political parties stood opposing the proposal. Political leaders are of the view that Indian Constitution is the supreme scripture and that religious books should not be brought up to represent the nation. Politicos also feared a demand of making other religious books as national scripture to crop up soon. Swaraj made the remarks while speaking at 'Gita Prerna Mahotsav', organised to celebrate 5,151 years of religious book Gita at the Red Fort Maidan where VHP President Ashok Singhal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately declare the sacred text of Hindus as a national scripture. Reactions pour in as Laxmikant Bajpai claims Taj Mahal to be part of an ancient temple

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): Politicos react as President of BJP unit in Uttar Pradesh, Laxmikant Bajpai claimed that Taj Mahal was a part of an ancient temple. Bajpai said that Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan "purchased a part of Tejo Mahalaya temple's land from Raja Jai Singh" and claimed that he had documents to prove it still exist. Union Minister Kalraj Mishra said that the monument will be as it is and would not change. Congress leader PL Punia said that BJP is trying to communalise the matter by making such claims.
