Restoration work of first astro turf in Kashmir nears completion

Srinagar, Dec 27 (ANI): Kashmir will soon boast of a football astro turf as authorities gear up to complete the restoration work. The newly constructed stadium in Srinagar was badly damaged in September in the worst flooding in more than a century. The state's sports council, which is carrying out the repairs, has laid the turf again. Officials say the stadium will be ready in a month's time to host international football matches. Manager of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council -Synthetic Turf Football Stadium, Sheikh Tulal, said the stadium will be thrown open to public once it gets the nod from FIFA (The Federation Internationale de Football Association). A football player, Dilbag Singh, said the stadium, once complete, will help the budding players in the state. Dec 27, 2014

Assam attack: Hundreds of people stranded in relief camps after attack leaves at least 80 dead

Alipurduar/Kokrajhar, Dec 27 (ANI): Hundreds of people are stranded in relief camps in Assam after tribal separatists killed at least 80 people, including women and children, early this week. The first round of attack began on Tuesday where militants fighting for a separate homeland for indigenous Bodo tribesmen targeted plantation workers. Survivors said they were forced to abandon their homes as there was no security in interiors. Government officials are also camping in these temporary shelters to look after their arrangements. Armed security personnel are guarding the camps. The Tuesday attacks on plantation workers were blamed on a faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland in retaliation for an offensive against them launched by security forces a month ago. Rajnath Singh seeks don extradition after tapes reveals his presence in Pakistan

Lucknow, Dec 27 (ANI): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday sought fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim's extradition after a tape claimed his presence in Karachi. Tapes broadcast by news website alleged that Dawood, accused of being involved in 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, was running and expanding his business empire from his hideout. India has claimed that Pakistan continues to provide safe haven to suspected Dawood Ibrahim to further its proxy war but Pakistan denies it. Health department prepared to handle swine flu cases: JP NAdda

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Health Minister JP Nadda said on Saturday there was no need to panic after the death of a woman due to swine flu in New Delhi. Nadda said the hospitals were equipped to handle swine flu cases.The 51-year-old woman, who hailed from Ghaziabad city in Uttar Pradesh, was admitted to a local hospital after she complained of fever and cold. She was later tested positive for swine flu. Swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems.According to the Directorate of Health Services, six cases of swine flu have been reported in the national capital and its neighbouring region till now this month.
