Lalu arrives in Lucknow with 'shagun' for daughter's wedding

Lucknow, Dec 7 (ANI): RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav arrived in Lucknow on Sunday to pay a visit at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence and to perform the "shagun" ceremony ahead of his daughter Raj Lakshmi's wedding. Lalu's youngest daughter Raj Lakshmi is set to tie the knot with Mulayam's grandson MP Tej Pratap Singh and the dates are yet to be decided. BJP says twitter won't be only defining factor to get BJP tickets for Delhi polls

New Delhi, Dec 07 (ANI): BJP on Sunday stood by the reports that the party will back twitter factor to decide on who gets tickets for Delhi Assembly elections. BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that the party is depending on more twitter followers but that would not be the only defining factor to get tickets for the Assembly polls. Party leader Ashwini Upadhyay also said that there are many factors which decide the candidature and this would be just one of them. Politicos & Social activists demand action against Uber cab driver for alleged rape case in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 07 (ANI): Political leaders on Sunday demanded action against the Uber taxi service driver who allegedly raped a woman who was returning from a dinner party in Gurgaon on Friday night. BJP Spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that police is taking action and that the government will not tolerate crime against women. Congress leader Rashid Alvi also condemned the incident and demanded action on the same. Meanwhile, women rights activists and social activists also condemned the incident and said that it is unfortunate that such incident take place under the very nose of the central government. Indian Army recovers arms used in Handwara encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 7 (ANI): Indian Army on Sunday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition used by militants during the latest encounter in Handwara town of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the reports, these arms and ammunitions were used in the gunfight between the Army and the militants during the second phase of assembly polls in Handwara on Tuesday. Also recovered were arms used during a gun battle in Uri sector, near the heavily militarized border with Pakistan, on Friday when militants sneaked into an Indian military camp killing 11 soldiers and police officials. Violence has escalated in Kashmir as India holds an election to the state assembly that separatists have shunned and instead urged talks with Pakistan to resolve the 67-year-old row over the Muslim-majority region. Martyr Sankalp Shukla receives Guard of Honour, Body cremated in Ranchi

Ranchi, Dec 07 (ANI): The martyred soldier Lt Col Sankalp Shukla was given Guard of Honour on Sunday before his body could be cremated. Shukla laid his life fighting against militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector on Friday. He had also reportedly sustained bullet injuries in a militant attack about 10 years back. The soldier is survived by his wife and two daughters. A grand wreath laying ceremony was held in Ranchi where a huge crowd gathered to pay floral tribute to the soldier after which, his body was cremated. Dec 7, 2014

Security tightens in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Modi rally

Srinagar, Dec 7 (ANI): Security was tightened in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally scheduled for Monday. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had alleged that the purpose of the recent militant attack at an Army base in the state was to create terror among the masses. BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh alleged that these incidents were to disrupt the election atmosphere in the state. Sniffer dogs and security personnel were deployed in and around the rally venue. Woman allegedly raped by Uber cab driver in Delhi

Mathura, Dec 7 (ANI): A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the driver of a cab that she hired through Uber from Vasant Vihar area. The incident took place when she was returning from Gurgaon on Saturday night. A rape case has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police station and the accused has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. The cab was later recovered by the Police in Mathura on Sunday along with the driver's mobile phone, which was switched off. According to the reports, the driver has been detained by the police. Textile business sees a drop in Surat

Surat, Dec 7 (ANI): The textile industry in Gujarat saw 30 percent less sales in comparison to the previous year even though it is the season of big fat Indian weddings.The month of December is one of the busiest months for the industry, with Christmas round the corner and the wedding season at its peak, but this year the shopowners in Surat's Textile Market are sitting idle. JandK attack: Terrorists belonged to LeT, says Indian Army

Srinagar, Dec 07 (ANI): Army on Sunday said that the terrorists involved in the recent terror strikes in four towns of Jammu and Kashmir belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba group and were highly trained to carry special operations. Kashmir Valley was rocked by four attacks by terrorists from across the border who stormed an Army camp in Uri leaving 11 security personnel including a Lt Colonel dead and killed two civilians in Tral. Talking to mediapersons in Srinagar Lieutenant General Subrata Saha said that all the ammunitions and arms seized during encounters last week by Indian Army were manufactured in Pakistan. Huge cache of explosives recovered in Assam

Assam, Dec 7 (ANI): India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel recovered a huge quantity of explosives from Bokajan town in Assam. The explosives, including 86 packets of gelatin sticks, 30 packets of detonators, and 286 metres of cable wires, were seized from a bus which was coming from Shillong and was heading to Dimapur. The CRPF has arrested the two drivers of the buses and will conduct the further investigation to find out whether any militant outfit was indulged.
