New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said that the Rajya Sabha is not being able to function due to the arrogance of the opposition parties. Earlier on Thursday, the opposition had stalled proceedings in the Rajya Sabha over a repeated demand that Prime Minister Modi be called to the Upper House to make a statement on the conversion row that has hogged national headlines for the past few days. SC refuses to interfere with Bombay High Court order that stays Maratha reservation

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to interfere with the order of the Bombay High Court which stayed the move to grant 16 per cent reservation to Marathas in public service and educational institutions in Maharashtra. Earlier, the Bombay HC had cancelled the previous Congress-NCP government's decision of giving 16 percent reservation for Marathas. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had later advocated for Maratha reservation and approached the Supreme Court. The court said that it will take decision after listening to all the pending petitions. Operations on to rescue 14-month-old boy from borewell in MP

Chhatarpur, Dec 18 (ANI): A 14-month-old boy got trapped after accidentally falling into a 100-feet deep borewell in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The district administration initiated rescue operation, which is still in progress, soon after the incident. According to the police, the child was left alone near the borewell while her aunt was working in the adjacent farmland. He added that a team of doctors has also been rushed to the spot to work on providing oxygen to the child through a pipe. The parents of the child rushed to the incident site the moment they were informed. Krishna is their only child. This is not the first case of a child falling into an uncovered manhole in India. Due to the negligence on the part of authorities, several children have fallen into deep open borewells across the country. Dec 18, 2014

Gun battle between militant and army ends in Kashmir

Kupwara, Dec 18 (ANI): The brief encounter between militant and security forces ended in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, in which one militant was killed. The encounter began this morning after security forces received a tip-off about the presence of a foreign militant in a house in the village. The identity of the militant was not ascertained immediately. The attack comes just days ahead of the fifth phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Dec 18, 2014

Mayawati taunts Naidu's Delhi remark, says BJP may change Constitution next

Tamchon Football Tournament attracts many spectators in New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Thousands of football lovers from the national capital flooded the Dr Ambedkar stadium in Delhi to witness the closing ceremony of the eighth Tamchon Football tournament. A total of 16 teams, comprising of players from the northeast, participated in the tournament to promote peace, friendship and unity among the youth of the country. The final match between Hmar FC and Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP) attracted a large crowd. The event was organized under the aegis of Tanghkul Naga Society, Delhi with support from various government and private agencies. Such events help to make Delhi'ites aware of sporting talent from the Northeast. Hmar FC won by 6-5 over SSPP by penalty goal. SC extends Jayalalithaa's bail by four more months

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday extended bail of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by four more months in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa, who has appealed against her conviction in a corruption case, will remain on bail till April. The court also asked chief justice of Karnataka High Court to constitute a special bench to expeditiously decide Jayalalithaa's appeal within 3 months. The SC also ordered that the case be heard on a day-to-day basis. The matter came up before the Supreme Court on Thursday, counsel for Jayalalithaa, KTS Tulsi informed the Chief Justice HL Dattu, that in compliance with the earlier order of the apex court, Jayalalithaa had already submitted all the appeal papers before the Karnataka High Court. Mamata says will keep up attack on NDA govt in Parliament, politicos react

A video has emerged that purportedly shows Saeed blaming India and saying that it was a conspiracy by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government against Pakistan. The video also showed Saeed threatening India with "revenge" for the Peshawar massacre. Politicos congratulate ISRO for successfully launching GSLV Mark-III

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Politicos from various parties on Thursday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists for successfully launching the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first time that such an exercise has been conducted by the ISRO scientists. The GSLV Mark III weighs 630 tonnes and is powered by liquid and solid fuel engines while the cryogenic engine at the top is filled with liquid nitrogen.
