Manjhi meets Bihar Governor, requests for secret ballot voting

Patna, Feb 09 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday met the state Governor over crisis in the government. Manjhi said that he has requested the Governor to hold a secret ballot voting and counting should be done in the presence of leaders from both sides. New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): BJP's chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi on Monday said that she has put all her efforts to work for Delhi in 17 days. She said that she covered about 1500 kilometres for roadshows and worked with all her energy during the period of time she was given. Bedi further said that there is no nervousness in her about the results due tomorrow. She also said that she will go to her constituency to see the results. Bedi also said that the party workers have worked selflessly and that she is organizing a tea party for all of them in order to thank them. Kashmiris demand mortal remains of Afzal Guru on second death anniversary

Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Protesters in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday demanded mortal remains of parliament attack convict, Mohammad Afzal Guru, two years after he was hanged. On Monday, security forces anticipating unrest imposed curfew in Srinagar city. However, residents staged a protest in the main city. On December 13, 2001, five gunmen stormed the Parliament in New Delhi, killing nine people, mostly policemen, before themselves being gunned down. Guru, who was held guilty in the case, was given death sentence by a Delhi court on December 18, 2002, after being convicted of conspiracy to attack parliament and waging war against the country and murder. New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Political parties on Monday react as exit polls suggest clear majority for AAP in Delhi Assembly elections. Most of the exit polls say AAP will have clear majority against BJP, a day before the announcement of the results. AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said that the party will wait for the results and not go by the exit polls. However, he also said that the exit polls have downplayed AAP's performance and that the party will gain more number of seats. Congress leader Manish Tewari accepted the exit polls and said that Congress' votes in Delhi have been diverted to AAP. BJP leader Srikant Sharma said that the exit polls are not accurate always and that the party is confident of making government in the national capital. Singapore president receives ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam attended official welcome in New Delhi on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Yam walked along a red carpet and stood under a red canvas as a military band played the Singapore and national anthem. On his arrival at the presidential palace, he was welcomed by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bikers rally to create awareness on Rhino poaching in Assam

Guwahati, Feb 09 (ANI): Motorcyclists rode through streets of Guwahati in Assam to create awareness about endangered one-horned rhinoceros, typical to the region in the country. The bike rally, organised by Royal Enfield and a club Rhino Riders, saw participation of 50 enthusiasts who wore T-shirts with messages, 'Rhinos will live', and waved flags. A participant from Rhino Riders, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, said that it was important for citizens to know about the rampant killings of the animal. Kashmiri separatist leader calls for complete shutdown

Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday called for complete shutdown in Kashmir to observe death anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed for masterminding militant attack on Parliament in New Delhi. All the shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Srinagar as well as other parts of the valley. The normal business was affected due to the non availability of traffic. Meanwhile, the state government imposed a curfew across Srinagar to prevent protest rallies on the day. Security forces anticipating unrest have imposed curfew in Srinagar and ordered people off the streets. Police officers and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have stepped up surveillance across the city. Pak violates ceasefire in R S Pura sector in J-K

Rs Pura Sector, Feb 09 (ANI): In yet another case of ceasefire violation, the Pakistani forces opened fire at ten border outposts in Jammu's RS Pura Sector on late Sunday night. In response to the unprovoked firing from Pakistan at 11:30 pm last night, the BSF troops retaliated to the firing. New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Amid deepening political crisis in Bihar, JD (U) expelled Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi from the party. Manjhi, who has refused to resign as Bihar Chief Minister to make way for Nitish Kumar, has been expelled by his the party. According to sources, Manjhi, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday and reportedly discussed the Bihar situation, was accused of anti-party activities. "I am the Chief Minister and I will be here till the legislature party decides otherwise," Manjhi had said on Sunday. Manjhi had also promised to step down if he failed to prove his majority.
