Blast rocks Assam leaving three injured

Hailakandi, Feb 02 (ANI): At least three persons were injured in a powerful explosion in Hailakandi district of Assam. The bomb, which exploded near a police station, was planted in a shop in the busy market of the town. Police has launched an investigation in the incident. The southern part of Hailakandi district bordering Mizoram is affected by Bru (Reang) militants. Assam is one of the seven states that make up India's restive remote northeast. Feb 2, 2015

Speeding bus mows down three people in Andhra Pradesh

East Godavari, Feb 02 (ANI): An over speeding bus mowed down at least three people in Andhra Pradesh. The accident occurred when the bus broke traffic signal and hit people in East Godavari. The driver immediately fled the spot. The four injured persons have been admitted to a local hospital. Police has registered the case and investigation is underway to nab the culprits. Feb 2, 2015

Goa police arrest Italian national, recover drug worth millions

Panaji, Feb 02 (ANI): Anti-narcotics cell of police in Goa arrested a 54-year-old Italian national and recovered drug worth one hundred million from him. Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in Anjuna beach area during which accused Vincenzo Rainone was caught red-handed. Later his house was searched where police found 30,000 LSD papers (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) and liquid LSD. This is one of the major seizures of LSD papers by the Goa police. The accused had been visiting Goa on business and tourist visas since last 14 years. Rainone will be produced before court for police remand. Feb 2, 2015

Pakistani Shi'ites protest against Shikarpur mosque blast that killed at least 49 people

Islamabad, Feb 02 (ANI): Dozens of Shi'ite held rallies in Pakistani capital Islamabad to condemn mosque bombing in Shikarpur that killed at least 49 worshippers and injured dozens of others on Friday. Thousands of mourners in Shikarpur city on Saturday held a mass funeral for victims of the bomb blast in a Shi'ite mosque. The blast occurred during Friday prayers. The Islamabad protesters held banners and placards denouncing the bombing and demanding the perpetrators to be hanged publicly. At another protest in Islamabad by ex-graduates of Quaid-e-Azam University, the protesters demanded the government provide quick justice to the families of the victims. China opens additional route to Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet: MEA

Beijing, Feb 02 (ANI): China agreed to open an additional route to Hindu pilgrimage in Tibet through Nathu La pass, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin during Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj visit to Beijing. Akbaruddin said devotees could undertake more comfortable journey by vans and busses to Kailash-Mansarovar, where Lord Shiva is believed to be residing in perpetual meditation state along with his wife Parvati. Swaraj and her Chinese counterpart decided to set up a contact group to discuss the modalities of Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Beijing later this year. Swarajs trip comes just days after US President Barack Obama's unprecedented second visit to India that concluded with nuclear deal and defence co-operation between the two countries that evoked considerable concern from China. Sushma Swaraj meets Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

Beijing, Feb 02 (ANI): Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday met her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov while on her four-day visit to China. The two leaders held talks on bilateral and multilateral issues. The meeting was held in the sidelines of the 13th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of Russia-India-China Trilateral, which Swaraj will be attending later. Church in Vasant Kunj area vandalized by miscreants

New Delhi, Feb 02 (ANI): In yet another case of vandalism being directed towards the Christian community of the national capital, a church in the Vasant Kunj area of the city was ravaged by unknown persons, just five days ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi. 91 children run away from juvenile jail in Meerut

Meerut, Feb 02 (ANI): In a shocking incident in Meerut city, 91 children absconded from a Bal Sudhar Grah (Children Reformation Home) during wee hours on Monday morning. The children made a cloth-rope and jumped over the jail's kitchen wall, the rear side of the premises, at around 3 AM which according to the District Police Officer (DPO) Yatendra Singh, was not being guarded by any police official since the wall was quite high. At present, 185 children were in jail, of which 56 had been shifted to Bulandshahr city and some more were about to be shifted in Ghaziabad. Superintendent of Police (City) Om Prakash Singh added that the police are yet to investigate whether it was a case of negligence. Feb 2, 2015

Snowfall in Kashmir bring cheers to residents

Srinagar, Feb 02 (ANI): Fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir brought cheers to residents and turned the valley into a picturesque panorama. The capital city, Srinagar, received season's first snowfall which ended long dry spell. As per local media reports, the weather department has predicted snowfall during next three days. The minimum temperature recorded was minus 0.2 degree Celsius. Residents were happy as they said that the 40-day long Chillai Kalan, believed to be the harshest winter period in the valley, was over. Snowfall would bring some relief to people as health problems associated with dry winters would also end. Moreover, the snowfall would help increase water level in rivers and streams. New Delhi, Feb 02 (ANI): In a big jolt to BJP just five days ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections, BJP state executive member and Kiran Bedi's election campaign in-charge Narendra Tandon resigned from the party on Monday. The reasons for Tandon's resignation are yet to be known. Tandon, in his resignation letter to BJP President Amit Shah, said that he “could not tolerate” the way Bedi gave instructions to party workers. “Her (Kiran Bedi) aides used to insult me on every issue,” his letter stated.
