President chairs Governors conference of all states

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday (February 11) met governors and lieutenant governors of states and union territories to discuss emerging challenges and other issues. The two-day governors conference will discuss issues like security, with main focus on borders, finance, sanitation, employment and on achievement of flagship schemes and projects. This is the first conference after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government came to power in May last year. As per media reports, plans like Modi's 'Swachh Bharat' or Clean India campaign, skill development, etc will also be discussed. Textile industry expects tax cuts in upcoming budget

Surat, Feb 11 (ANI): Manufacturers in textile industry in Gujarat expect tax cuts from the Central government in upcoming budget to help the industry come out of crisis. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will on February 28 present his first full-year budget, seeking to put Asia's third-largest economy on a path of 7-8 percent growth over the next two years. In Surat, industrialists said they were facing crisis due to rise in prices of raw materials like yarn and colour chemicals. A favourable budget will being relief for one-and-a-half million people associated with the industry, he added. Vakharia also hoped for relaxation in prices of acquiring land. BS Bassi briefs about summon to Naresh Balyan and Sunanda Murder case

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Wednesday briefed about summon to AAP leader Naresh Balyan in illegal liquor seizure case and about Sunanda Pushkar murder case. Bassi said that Balyan had asked not to summon him till elections so he will now be summoned and enquired. He added that if Balyan still does not turn up legal course of action shall be taken against him. Modi temple in Gujarat draws supporters

Rajkot, Feb 11 (ANI): People of Rajkot city thronged a temple dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple in Kothariya village is drawing supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from neighbouring villages also. It took around two years to build the temple and initially had a photograph of Modi. It rose to prominence after Modis win in general elections last year. Ramesh Undhad, who donated funds for temple building, said it took nearly four years to get Modis idol made. Arvind Kejriwal to meet Rajnath Singh and President today

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Delhi's Chief Minister designate Arvind Kejriwal will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday. Kejriwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party made a clean sweep of the Delhi assembly polls, winning 67 of the 70 seats on offer, was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislative party on Tuesday. He later met Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung at the latter's official residence and conveyed the news. Jung will now send the report regarding the matter to President Pranab Mukherjee, allowing Kejriwal to stake claim towards government formation in the national capital. Singapore President inaugurates Peranakan Chinese exhibition in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam recentlt inaugurated the first ever exhibition on the Peranakan Chinese in New Delhi as part of his four-day visit to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The exhibition titled "The Peranakan World - Cross-cultural Art of Singapore and the Straits of Malacca" glimpses into the life of the particular Chinese sect and will display an assortment of objects including diamond and gold jewellery, porcelain, furniture and beadwork, among others. He added it was appropriate that the exhibition was unveiled during the 50th anniversary of India-Singapore relations, stressing that India had a role in influencing Singaporean culture. Coimbatore students donate hair to help cancer patients get wigs

Coimbatore, Feb 11 (ANI): More than 300 students of a private college in Coimbatore city donated their hair to help cancer patients get free wigs. Cancer patients lose their hair when they undergo chemotherapy. While some people wear wigs, many patients cannot afford its cost. In a bid to help them, students donated their long locks and said more such donations will come. The students donated around eight to 10 inches of hair, which will be designed into wigs for the patients. The initiative is part of a campaign 'Tangled' and urges people to contribute for the noble cause by donating their hair in any of the 20 outlets across the city. US couple adopts 2-year-old girl with rare blood disorder in Maharashtra

Aurangabad, Feb 11 (ANI): Setting an example, an American couple adopted a two-year-old girl suffering from a rare blood disorder from an adoption centre in Maharashtra. This is the first adoption of a special child by a foreign couple in Aurangabad. The Society for Adoption, Knowledge, Awareness and Resource (Sakar) houses 39 other children with congenital, mental or physical deformities. Sandhya's new mother, Andrea Knepper, who already has two biological children, (two sons - 11 and 9 years old), said it was her wish to adopt a girl from India as her grandfather belonged to the country.
