New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): A fresh controversy has erupted over the movement of two Army units near Delhi in 2012 with then DGMO Lt Gen A K Choudhary saying there may have been "distrust" between the Army and government on the issue. Speaking on the same, Defence Minister AK Antony on Friday said that he has said on record in Parliament that he got reports from Army that it was a routine training programme. He also added that nothing was wrong in it.

Telangana: Shutdown in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam/Vijayawada /New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Anti-Telangana protests intensified in Andhra Pradesh as Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions witnessed complete shutdown on Friday against the bifurcation and creation of new state. Lawmakers passed a bill to create India's 29th state on Thursday, despite mayhem in the parliament, as opponents made a futile last attempt to stop the Rajya Sabha from carving out landlocked Telangana from the coastal Andhra Pradesh. Security was beefed up in Vijayawada district and the shops remained closed in protest against the passing of Telangana Bill. The residents slammed the central government over their decision on Telangana and said that it was one-sided decision. Meanwhile, Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao hailed the efforts made by the party.

Kolkata pays homage to language heroes on International Mother Language Day

Kolkata, Feb 21 (ANI): People in West Bengal celebrated International Mother Language Day with fervour and paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives with an aim to provide an identity to the Bengali language. Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Abida Islam, organized a march with banners and placards in Kolkata in memory of those who died in the struggle to make Bengali the state language. The Bangla Language Movement of February 21, 1952 was a unique movement aimed at advocating the recognition of Bangla language as the region’s official language, allowing it to be used by the government.

Kejriwal hits out at Modi, Rahul on gas pricing issue

New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): After making startling claims against Reliance Industries Pvt Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, seeking clarification on BJP's stand on the gas pricing issue. Addressing mediapersons on Friday, Kejriwal said that he has asked Modi in the letter why he is silent on the gas pricing issue. New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Friday said that the BJP has done justice to both Telangana and Seemandhra region and if the party comes in power, further justice will be done. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill or the Telangana Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday in the face of noisy protests. The Bill was passed without any change as the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party did not press for any of the amendments moved by it following an assurance from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over several issues, including a special package to the Seemandhra region for five years. The stalemate over the Bill ended after hectic negotiations between the Congress and the BJP.

India, Bangladesh demarcate disputed border

Agartala, Feb 21 (ANI): India, Bangladesh officials demarcated the disputed border in Tripura after four days of meticulous work and expressed satisfaction. The teams from both the countries visited the bordering areas of Kashba, Kaiyardepha and Akhaura and located 250 new subsidiary border pillars, which have been newly constructed. The demarcation would help guards in manning the border, expedite various construction activities such as fencing and lighting and making of water pump houses. Director General of Bangladesh Department of Land Record and Survey (DLRS), Mohammed Abdul Mannan, said that his team had carried out the mandate given by two governments. Director of Survey of India, N R Biswal, said that confusion over land ownership would end after the demarcation.
