Rahul Gandhi lashed out at BJP for trying to divide people on communal lines

New Delhi, April 07 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launches a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party over its attempt to “divide the society on communal lines”. In a bid to garner votes ahead of general elections, Gandhi alleged that former Delhi government headed by Aam Aadmi Party chose an escapist route and shrugged off their responsibilities. Gandhi further, slammed BJP for trying to project Modi as the answer to all the issues faced by the people of the country. Gandhi also added that he would continue his fight for 33 percent reservation for women empowerment.

Congress alone can counter BJPs divisive ideology: Manmohan Singh

Kochi, April 07 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lashing out at Bharatiya Janata Party, said that the Congress alone could counter the "divisive ideology" of BJP and its misleading propaganda against the ruling government in handling graft cases as well as developmental issues. Singh addressed a public rally in Kochi in Kerala endorsing the economic development achieved during the Congress led UPA government. While addressing the rally, Singh also took jibes at the Left saying that its stock was bound to dwindle further in the future unless they changed in tune with the times.

Lok Sabha polls commences in Tripura

Tripura, April 07 (ANI): Polling in one of the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura commenced on Monday in the first stage of 2014 general elections. Around 1.2 million voters are eligible to vote in the Tripura West constituency, who will decide the fortunes of 13 candidates in the state. The Left has won from West Tripura 11 times since the first Lok Sabha election of 1952 and the Congress four times. CPI-M's Sankar Prasad Datta, Congress's Arunoday Saha, BJP state president Sudhindra Chandra Dasgupta, Trinamool Congress state chief Ratan Chakraborty and Aam Aadmi Party's Salil Saha are among the contenders.

Five seats in Assam votes as 2014 polls begin amidst security

Assam, April 07 (ANI): The first of the five stages of parliamentary polls begins on Monday in five constituencies in Assam. The BJP, Trinamool Congress, AIUDF, AGP, AAP, SUCI, CPI (M), AIFB and SP, are contesting in the five seats in Tezpur, Koliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur in Assam. The electoral fortunes of 51 contestants, including two Union ministers, will be decided in five Lok Sabha seats in Assam when an electorate of 64,41,634, including 31,20,067 women will cast their votes amidst tight security. The polling booths witnessed a large number of first time voters too.

FIR lodged against Amit Shah for hate speech, Politicos react

BSF seizes drugs worth billions near Pakistan border

Ferozpur, April 06 (ANI): Border Security Force (BSF) in Ferozpur district of Punjab seized over 35 kilograms of heroin from near the Pakistan border, after a face-off with the smugglers in the wee hours of Sunday. After hearing noises, the security officials launched a search operation and later both the sides fired shots. The two smugglers, however, managed to escape. Quoting it as one of the biggest achievements at the border, the Inspector General of BSF, AK Tomar, said that they had successfully failed the attempt of Pakistani smugglers. A Pakistan’s mobile phone was also recovered from the site.

BJP reacts to Chidambaram's 'Modi overtaking BJP' remark

Bhopal runs for nation's economy before polls

Bhopal, April 06 (ANI): Students and professionals in large numbers participated in marathon race, 'Run for the Indian economy' in Bhopal on Sunday for a resurgent India and to show concern for country's economy. The event was organised by Institute of Professional Education and Research (IPER), Bhopal. One of the organisers of the marathon, Gurleen Singh Khalsa, said this is a gesture to show that people are aware and concerned and will not rest till economy gets its due. AAP conducts road show in Delhi to garner voters support

New Delhi, April 6 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday (April 06) appealed to the masses to vote for his party while conducting a road show from Shadipur metro station to Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Kejriwal was followed by large numbers of supporters and workers as he moved through the streets of the city.
