Dhaka, Oct 20 (ANI): Post 1947, Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan and was known as East Pakistan. Soon after the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 following a 9 month long violent struggle against Pakistan, the father of the nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned communal parties in the country and declared secularism and socialism to be the state principles. These steps were taken to stop the rise of Islamist forces; especially the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. This party was not in favour of breaking away with Muslim-majority Pakistan. Oct 20, 2013

CBI should be allowed to work independently: Congress on coal scam

Floods following cyclone Phailin force thousands into rescue homes in Odisha

Puri, Oct 20 (ANI): Floods triggered by cyclone Phailin, which has left a wave of disaster in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, left hundreds of villagers stranded in eastern Puri district, forcing them to take shelter in rescue homes. At least 15 people have died in this fury of nature. On the sixth day of the floods, the embankment of River Malaguni broke due to the force of the flood waters and many villages in Odisha were marooned. Though the water has started receding but around 50,000 affected villagers have nowhere to go as their houses were washed away with the floods. Oct 20, 2013

US intervention in Kashmir not acceptable: SP on Nawaz Sharif's demand

Hardoi, Oct 20 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought US intervention in resolving the Kashmir issue. Reacting sharply on the demand, the Samajwadi Party on Sunday said that it won't tolerate any interference by the United States in the matter.
