Muzaffarnagar riots: Allahabad HC notice to Azam Khan

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): The Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan for allegedly pressing for the release of seven members from the Muslim community named in the murder of two Jats, which triggered the communal backlash in Mazaffarnagar last month claiming at least 48 lives. The court asked Azam Khan to file his counter affidavit within ten days from the receipt of notice. According to reports, the Allahabad High Court also stayed the suspension of an SHO of a police station in Muzaffarnagar where these seven accused were held by the police. The court noted that the allegations leveled against Khan were "serious" and "the chain of incidents show that the matter requires consideration to see the circumstances and to find out whether the same was "in accordance with law" and not "vitiated". College Principal hacked to death by engineering students

Tuticorin, Oct 10 (ANI): In a shocking incident, students of Infant Jesus Engineering College in Tuticorin city of Tamil Nadu hacked their Principal to death due to disciplinary action on them. The students were ordered to vacate the hostel on grounds of indiscipline. The three students were singled out by the Principal and repeatedly faced suspension and other disciplinary measures. According to the management, these students were indulged in ragging the juniors in the hostel. Delhi HC tells BAI to allow Jwala Gutta to play tournaments

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): The Delhi high court on Thursday asked the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to allow shuttler Jwala Gutta to participate in all tournaments till the disciplinary committee passes its final order. However, despite the intervention by HC, Jwala may still not be able to take part in the Denmark Open as her name has already been withdrawn from the tournament. A BAI committee had recommended a life-ban on the feisty veteran for allegedly trying to stop her Delhi Smashers teammates from playing a match against Banga Beats in the recent Indian Badminton League. Manish Tewari pulls up Punjab CM for complaining to PM

Sangrur, Oct 10 (ANI): With an upset Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal complaining to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for not being invited to Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's event, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Thursday said he is surprised at the former's angst, and added that people who possibly have a right to complain are the MPs and the ministers of Punjab who are treated as complete outsiders by the state government. Tewari also used the occasion to highlight the economic condition of Punjab, presently ruled by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance government. Badal had shot off an angry letter to the Prime Minister, saying that he had not been invited to the event where a major cancer hospital is to be inaugurated in Punjab and to be attended by Rahul Gandhi. IMF cuts India's growth forecast to 3.8%, BJP hits government

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): As India suffered the steepest cut in the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) revised growth forecasts for the year, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Thursday stated that the issue is very serious. He also called Finance Minister P Chidambaram an expert in bringing down growth rates. IMF, in its flagship World Economic Outlook report said that India will grow only 3.8% in the 2013-14 financial year against 5.6% projected in its July forecast, a cut of 1.8 percentage points. Telugu actor Srihari passes away

Mumbai, Oct 10 (ANI): Noted Telugu film actor Srihari, who was recently seen in "Thoofan", Telugu version of "Zanjeer", passed away at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The actor was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following illness and died around 5 PM. However, the cause of his death is not known yet. Srihari, who had been suffering from a liver ailment for some time, complained of giddiness during the shooting of 'Rambo Rajkumar' being directed by Prabhu Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. At least 14 killed and 40 injured in Hoshiarpur bus accident

Hoshiarpur, Oct 10 (ANI): At least 14 people, including seven women and three children were killed and 40 others injured as a mini bus fell into a ditch in Hoshiarpur city of Punjab. The accident occurred at 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed about the incident on Thursday. The passengers were returning after visiting a Hindu religious site in Himachal Pradesh.
