Shutdown in Kashmir against arrest and death of youths hits normal life

Srinagar, May 15 (ANI): Separatist leader and Chairman of hard-line Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, called for a shutdown in Srinagar on Thursday as a mark of protest against the arrest and death of youths who were allegedly involved in violence. The city wore a deserted look as shops and other business establishments remained closed. An irate resident, Safiz Ahmed, said the commuters had to face the brunt of the strike as many vehicles remained off the roads. Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to avert any untoward incident. The restive region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades. May 15, 2014

Sajjive Balakrishnan drew caricatures of Cancer patients bringing therapeutic effect

Kochi, May 15 (ANI): Renowned Indian caricaturist Sajjive Balakrishnan drew sketches of cancer patients at a government hospital in Kochi city of Kerala in an attempt to bring happiness to their lives and make them forget the pain for a while. Fascinated patients watched Balakrishnan sketch and were overjoyed to spend a day with him as he made their one-minute sketches with unparalleled artistry and finesse. Women's National Football championship in Assam brings together players from across the country

The ongoing 20th Senior Women's National Football Championship in Assam is witnessing a large turnout of people keen to watch the games. The national sporting event, being organized for the 1st time by the Dibrugarh and Golaghat District sports associations, was inaugurated recently at the Dibrugarh outdoor stadium. BJP prepares for win in General Elections

Gujarat, May 15 (ANI): Confident of a win with clear majority, BJP gears up to celebrate its victory in the country's mammoth general elections on Thursday, a day before the poll results. With a few more hours remaining for the fate of the world's largest democracy to be decided, BJP in Gujarat has already started preparing for the post-win celebrations and interactions. The confidence comes from the exit polls, conducted after the poll exercise ended on May 12, which showed the BJP and its allies would touch half-way mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha of the Parliament. The fictional work titled 'La Premiere Chose qu'On Regarde' (The First Thing We Look At) is written by Gregoire Delacourt, a leading daily reported.The book tells the story of a French model who looks so similar to the American actor that the book's lead male character thinks it is Johansson herself and has a series of adventures as Johansson until she is eventually found out and, in the end, dies in a car crash.Johansson's lawyer said that Delacourt's novel constituted a violation and fraudulent and illegal exploitation of her name, her reputation and her image and that it contains defamatory claims about her private life. Parliament takes slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of new lawmakers

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The Secretary General of the Lower House P Sreedharan on Thursday said that the Parliament has taken a slew of measures to ensure smooth arrival of newly elected lawmakers in New Delhi. Sreedharan said the government has set up six guide posts at airport and three railway stations in the capital to receive the newly-elected members and facilitate their journey to the parliament or the place of their stay. Students protest against DU professor over his alleged Maoist links

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Members of a student organization took to streets in New Delhi on Thursday against a Professor at University of Delhi, G.N. Saibaba, as they demanded his suspension over alleged Maoist links. Professor of English, Saibaba was arrested by police in Maharashtra on May 09.
