Gold in India drops in longest losing streak in nearly 7 months

Visakhapatnam, June 02 (ANI): Gold slid for a fifth straight session on Monday, in its longest losing streak since November, as investor sentiment was hurt by stronger global equities and weak physical demand in Asia. The 5-day fall is the metal's longest losing streak since October-November when it fell for seven straight days. On Monday, as gold prices fell, customers in Visakhapatnam made a beeline to jewellery shops. A customer, Deepti, was elated over the fall in the gold price and said that even the middle class can afford to buy the precious metal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said any action on gold should take into account the interests of the public and traders, not just economics and policy.

Former union minister Tapan Sikdar passes away, BJP says great loss to party

New Delhi, June 2 (ANI): Senior BJP leader and former union minister Tapan Sikdar passed away in AIIMS Hospital, in New Delhi on Monday following a cardiac arrest. 69-year-old Sikdar who served as Union minister from 2004 to 2009 was suffering from kidney problem. BJP president Rajnath Singh and senior party leader LK Advani expressed grief over his death.

Maharashtra inducts two new members in its cabinet

Mumbai, June 02 (ANI): The Maharashtra government inducted two new ministers in its cabinet on Monday. Incumbent legislator from Latur constituency of the state, Amit Deshmukh, took oath as the Minister of State while legislator Abdul Sattar from Sillod constituency took oath as the new Cabinet Minister. Governor of Maharashtra, K Sankaranarayanan, administered the oath of office to both the legislators at Raj Bhavan. Deshmukh is a first- time minister and the elder son of late Maharashtra chief Vilasrao Deshmukh. Abdul Sattar, a politician and two-time legislator was the Minister of State in the government of former state chief, Ashok Chavan.

BJP workers protest against UP CM Akhilesh Yadav over Badaun gang rape case

Lucknow, June 02 (ANI): BJP women workers on Monday started protest against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav over the Badaun gangrape and murder case. In order to stop the protesters marching towards Yadav's residence and office, the state police used water cannons against them. There was heavy police deployment outside the Chief Minister's residence and office. Angry protesters claimed that the police also lathicharged them. Earlier, BJP state President Laxmikant Bajpai had said that women workers of the party would organise a gherao of the Chief Minister's office this morning.
