Hamren SP Nityananda Goswami's son demands CBI probe into father's death

Guwahati, June 7 (ANI): Nityananda Goswami's son, Nayan Goswami said that a high level probe should be conducted to find out how exactly his father died. On the tip of intelligence, police conducted a combing operation in remote Rongthang forest area of Karbi Anglong district on Friday to nab the militants and after an exchange of fire between two sides the Superintendent of Police Hamren, Nityananda Goswami went missing, whose body was found later. The Additional SP and other police officials who were part of the operation recovered the body of the Superintendent later on Friday.

Mumbai metro set to roll on Sunday, state CM says arbitrary tariff hike not acceptable

Mumbai, June 07 (ANI): The much anticipated Mumbai metro will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Sunday morning. This is India's first metro railway project implemented on a public-private partnership model by a consortium headed by RInfra since 2007, at a total cost of around Rs.4,300 crore. Accordingly, from Sunday the 11.4 km long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar east-west corridor with 12 elevated stations en route will run from 5.30 a.m. till midnight at a speed of 80 kmph. Meanwhile, talking about controversy over metro fare, state chief minister said that the increased fare is not acceptable unless it goes through the due processes.

Hardcore Maoists surrender in Odisha

Odisha, June 7 (ANI): Four rebels of a hardcore Maoist organisation, CPI (Maoist) surrendered before police in Koraput district of Odisha.The police said their case is being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of Odisha government.The surrendered rebels included the area committee member, Krishana Praska, the other rebels -Raju Hikoka, Kosai Wateka alias Nirmala and Durjana Mandingi and all belonged to Srikakulam-Koraput divisional committee of the CPI (Maoist).Inspector General of Police, South Western Range, Yaswant Jethwa, said the rebels were carrying a cash prize of around Rs 1 lakh.Four active members of Maoist organisation, CPI (Maoists), including area committee member, a member of technical team of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee and two more active members have surrendered.

Malaysian woman raped in Jaipur, one held

New Delhi, June 7 (ANI): A Malaysian woman has alleged to have been raped by a man she met on an official trip to India. According to reports, the woman has told the police that the man took her to an isolated place where he gave her a spiked drink and allegedly raped her. One man has been detained. The accused, however, denied the allegations and said that the woman had planned everything in advance. Activist Ranjana Kumari terming this rape serious stated that India's image in the world is deteriorating rapidly.

Dhaka, June 07 (ANI): Bangladesh people's resurgence platform, Gonojagoron Mancha, took to streets in Dhaka as they demanded speedy trial of war criminals accused of genocide during 1971 liberation struggle and banning of the country's Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami. Chinese Foreign Minister's visit to India significant for Modi govt: Defence Expert

New Delhi, June 07 (ANI): As Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is all set to visit New Delhi on Sunday as a special envoy of President Xi Jinping to establish political contacts with PM Narendra Modi, Defence Expert Bharat Verma said that the visit is significant to the Modi government. Illegal sand mining in Etawah adds to lawlessness in UP

Etawah, June 07 (ANI): Illegal sand mining has become a major issue in Uttar Pradesh. Villagers in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh complained that sand from a natural lake in the area was being mined and at least 150-200 tractors worth of sand was being carted away from the area. Villagers also said no one has complained yet because they believe it to be a government property and they do not know whether the mining is illegal. The authorities said the investigations will begin once it is ascertained that the sand is being mined from the lake.

People in Jharkhand welcome police's initiative to develop Maoist-affected village

Gumla, June 07 (ANI): Residents of Bishanpur village in Gumla district of Jharkhand have welcomed the initiative taken by police to develop the village and ensure safety and protection from rebel Maoist groups. The state police organized a camp at the Maoist-affected village as a part of social policing. Villagers opined that if the police are actually willing to take such positive steps and continue to help them when they are in dire need, the village will definitely develop and will be curbed of further rebel attacks.
