Union Home Ministry reviews the progress of Bezbaruah committee for Northeast people

New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The newly appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju reviewed the work of 6-member committee led by MP Bezbaruah and has sought an interim report by July this year. The committee comprising of retired IAS officers, student leaders and representatives from the northeastern states is looking into the concerns of the northeastern people residing across the country. The committee is interacting with students, professionals and various persons from Northeastern states living in metro cities across the country and seek their suggestions. Bezbaruah revealed that the committee has been looking into the possibility of enacting new laws to deal with racial discrimination. US is committed to relationship with India: Top US official Nisha Desai Biswal

New Delhi, June 09 (ANI): The United States is very committed to relationship with India, said US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Desai Biswal on Monday in New Delhi. This is the first such engagement between India and the US after the Narendra Modi-led BJP government took over. The visit, which the US requested, will see Biswal try to reset the India-US relationship that has come through tense times due to former Indian envoy Devyani Khobragade case. The two sides are expected to discuss upcoming engagements including the India-US-Japan trilateral talks on June 23-24, as well as the next round of the India-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, which is expected soon. Speaking to mediapersons, Biswal was hopeful that the meeting with Indian government will be fruitful. New Delhi, June 09 (ANI): The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Monday said that President Pranab Mukherjee's address to the joint session of Parliament is merely a rehash of the election manifesto presented by the incumbent government and not actually a blueprint. Addressing the Parliament, Mukherjee said that the new government would pursue a broad economic reform agenda focused on job creation through public and private investment that also makes containing inflation its top priority. Senior CPI (M) leader, Sitaram Yechury, said the statement was devoid of a blueprint to achieve the targets for the government in the coming year. Koraput, June 09 (ANI): Twelve rebels of a hardcore Maoist organisation, Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered before police in Koraput district of Odisha. The police said their case was being recommended for rehabilitation under the surrender policy of Odisha government. All the surrendered Maoists hailed from Narayanpatna area, which has been a Maoist stronghold. Police, meanwhile, have appealed all Maoists and their associates to shun violence or face stern action in the coming days.
