SC must protect dignity of the woman: Kapil SIbal on AK Ganguly

New Delhi, Dec 05 (ANI): Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday said that he was disappointed with the Apex Court for not proceeding against the former Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly in the alleged sexual harassment case. On Thursday, the Supreme Court said an inquiry had concluded that Ganguly indulged in "unwelcome verbal/non-verbal conduct of sexual nature" in a five-star hotel in Delhi in December. Chief Justice P Sathasivam, however, said the no follow up action would be taken as Justice Ganguly had retired when the alleged violation took place. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Sibal said that SC must protect the dignity of the woman. Dec 6, 2013

5-day state mourning for true Gandhian Nelson Mandela in India

New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): India will observe five-day state mourning as a mark of respect for former South African President and anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, who died on Thursday. The government on Friday said the national flag would fly at half-mast till Tuesday. Politicos demand AK Ganguly's resignation over sexual harassment charges

New Delhi/ Kolkata, Dec 06 (ANI): Politicians on Friday demanded resignation of former Supreme Court Justice, AK Ganguly over allegations of sexually assaulting a law intern. The three-judge committee of the Supreme Court which probed the complaint filed by the law graduate against Ganguly said that there was prima facie evidence. 11 Chinese sandalwood smugglers arrested in West Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 06 (ANI): Custom officials arrested 11 Chinese nationals after they were caught with huge amounts of sandalwood at an airport in West Bengal. Assistant Commissioner of Customs at Kolkata said that this was the second group of Chinese nationals which was caught smuggling sandalwood on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, a group of six Chinese nationals were caught carrying 120 kilograms of red sandalwood while the second group of five Chinese nationals was caught carrying 150 kilograms of white sandalwood. Cabinet approves bill for separate Telangana with 10 districts

Hyderabad/ New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): The cabinet has finally cleared a parliamentary bill for bifurcating Andhra Pradesh to create a separate state of Telangana, with 10 districts. Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde confirmed the approval after the cabinet meeting on Thursday. Shinde said the bill would now be sent to the President Pranab Mukherjee within a day or two with the request to make reference to state legislature under Article 3 of the Constitution of India. The home minister also said that the Government of India would be extending financial support for the creation of a new capital. Dec 6, 2013

Bangladesh ministers to quit over poll issue

Dhaka, Dec 06 (ANI): Four ministers of Jatiya Party were likely to quit the Bangladesh’s interim government, as their party chief Hussain Mohammad Ershad decided to boycott January parliament polls over formation of a neutral caretaker government. AMU suspends professor after sexual harassment charge

Aligarh, Dec 06 (ANI): The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) suspended a Law Department professor following a complaint of sexual harassment against him by a girl student of LLM first year. Mohammad Shabbir, chairman, department of law has been has been suspended on charges of misconduct following the complaint. The university registrar Captain Shahrukh Shamshad said the accused Professor Shabbir was suspended following the women cell recorded statements of the girl student as well as the faculty members.
