30 low caste families facing social boycott in Odisha

Rayagada, July 06 (ANI): For the past nine months, thirty low caste tribal families of the remote Paikapada village in Odisha face the humiliation of social boycott by villagers belonging to a higher caste. These thirty families who belong to Sano-adivasi (lower class) group are boycotted by the group Bodo-adivasi (upper class) which consists of 80 families. The Additional District Magistrate from Rayagada, Laxmikanth Behara, said that he has been informed about the incident. The group was boycotted for refusing to consume meat during the celebrations in honour of the Hindu elephant god, Ganesha.

Maoists shoot down doctor in Jharkhand

Gumla, July 06 (ANI): A village doctor, Raj Kishore Singh, was killed by Maoists in Gumla district of Jharkhand. Doctor's son, Deepak Kumar Singh, said the incident occurred in Mahadev Chutia village within Gagra police station limits in the district on Friday night. Villagers, though aware of the truth, refrained from speaking about the incident due to fear of the rebels and their threats. The reason for the killing is unknown and the Gumla police have sent the body for post-mortem.

BSF bringing smiles to children with cleft lips and palates

Tripura, July 05 (ANI): In a two-day long medical camp at Salbagan in West Tripura, the BSF doctors successfully performed surgeries on 13 patients suffering with cleft lips and palates. The camp was organized by the BSF Wives Welfare Association in collaboration with the Smile Train and Rotary club of Kolkata. The parents were very happy that the BSF is providing treatment free-of-cost.

More Indian nationals return from Iraq, thank Indian govt

New Delhi, July 05 (ANI): Another flight carrying stranded Indian nationals from Iraq has landed at New Delhi airport on Saturday evening. The Additional Resident Commissioner of Kerala, Rachana Shah said that she is thankful to all those who cooperated in this operation. Meanwhile the returned Indians expressed their happiness on returning back and also highlighted the severe situation in Iraq. Nearly 180 stranded Indians have returned from Iraq including 46 nurses of Kerala who came back this morning.

Car rally flags off from Patna to spread road safety awareness

Patna, July 05 (ANI): A car rally was flagged off from Patna to the holy city of Bodh Gaya on Saturday with the participants on a special mission to spread awareness about the issues of road safety and saving fuel. LS speaker to meet leaders ahead of budget session

Anti-nuclear group urges government to stop expansion of Kudankulam plant

Chennai, July 05 (ANI): Women members of the Anti Nuclear People's Movement held a news conference in Chennai on Saturday, saying another reactor is not required, following the government's plan to start a third and fourth reactor as an expansion of the present nuclear power plant in Idinthakarai village of the area. Member of Anti Nuclear People's Movement, Malar, said that they are demanding the government to stop the unnecessary expansion of the nuclear power plant. India has ratified an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to expand its civilian nuclear programme, in a move aimed at unblocking a major nuclear partnership with the United States.

Three- day painting exhibition brings cheer to specially-abled in Siliguri

Siliguri, July 05 (ANI): Anubhab, a voluntary organisation in Siliguri organised a three- day painting- cum- sale exhibition from July 04 to bring cheer to the specially- abled. The organizers will be showcasing more than 30 paintings by an eminent painter, Binit Sinha, from Kolkata who told the reporter that it is the duty of society to look after the specially- abled people. The Secretary of Anubhab, Pradip Nag, said the raised funds would be used to help the children. Aditya Pancholi files Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Jiah Khans mother

Pune, July 5 (ANI): Actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, whose son Suraj is facing charges of abetting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan, has filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against Rabbiya Khan, the mother of the deceased. Actress Jiah Khan was found dead under conspicuous circumstances at her Juhu apartment on June 3, 2013.

Weavers & Jewellers keep hope of promising financial plan alive ahead of 2014 budget

Varanasi/Rajkot, July 05 (ANI): Indian weavers and jewellers hoped for a promising financial plan for their respective sectors ahead of budget, which will be presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on July 10. The weaving industry in Uttar Pradesh expected modernisation of its power looms so that the country could compete with China in terms of production. However, one of their pressing concerns was the fate of the handloom industry. Weavers expect concessions from Narendra Modi-led government so that they could get fabric at fair prices and the art continues. Jewellers in Rajkot city of Gujarat also have expectations ahead of the announcement of fiscally prudent budget. They said import duty on gold should be reduced from 10 per cent so that more people buy gold and business booms.

Heavy rainfall damages road connectivity, isolates Tripura from rest of India

Agartala, July 05 (ANI): Tripura has been cut-off from the rest of the country as a large portion of the road connecting the state to the National Highway has been damaged due to heavy rains. Vehicular movement remained perturbed on National Highway 44 with the formation of big ditches and more than two thousand loaded trucks and passengers vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway. Truck and taxi drivers who were stranded without food and water complained that the concerned authorities responsible were not taking any step to solve the problem.They also alleged that a section of police and locals are making money by pulling the vehicles out of the mud with the help of bulldozers in exchange of a handsome amount. Meanwhile, Superintendent Engineer of Tripura Public Works Department (PWD), Alak Chakraborty, visited the spots and took note of the situation.

Indian workers stranded in Iraq return home

Hyderabad, July 5 (ANI): Several Indian workers returned to Hyderabad on Saturday after being held in captivity by ISIS militants in the war torn Iraq. Earlier, 46 Indian nurses also returned home after being stranded in Iraq.
