Indian worker returning from Iraq succumbs to illness

Gurdaspur, July 10 (ANI): An Indian youth, Shemshar Singh, died in Sharjah hospital while returning back home from war-torn Iraq. Shemshar, 24, who belonged to Gurdaspur district of Punjab, was returning back from Iraq with 11 other colleagues, when he fell seriously ill and was admitted to Sharjah hospital in Dubai. Succha Singh, father of Shemshar, said his son was working in Iraq as a labourer as he had volunteered to provide financial assistance to the family.

Dhaka residents express happiness after UN rules for Bangladesh in sea border dispute with India

Dhaka, July 10 (ANI): Residents in Dhaka were jubilant after a U.N. tribunal awarded Bangladesh nearly four-fifths of an area sprawling over 25,000 sq km (9,700 sq miles) in the Bay of Bengal, ending a dispute over a sea border with India that has ruffled ties between the neighbours for more than three decades. The dispute had hampered the economic development of both countries for more than 30 years.

Politicos give mixed expectations ahead of General Budget

New Delhi, July 10 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reached Parliament all set to present his maiden budget on Thursday. The budget may contain tax sops for the salaried, dumping of the controversial retrospective tax and spelling out of steps to revive investment and manufacturing for growth. For boosting investment, Jaitley is expected to announce tax incentives for industry. As a prelude, the government has already extended the excise duty concessions for automobile and consumer durable sectors till December.

Congress says complaint against Sonia Gandhi politically motivated

New Delhi, July 10 (ANI): Congress leader, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said the court complaint against its chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi is politically motivated. An Indian court summoned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to answer allegations that they used their leadership of the Congress party to misuse about $15 million of party funds for personal profit. Police arrest three Maoists in Jharkhand

Palamu, July 09 (ANI): Police arrested three Maoists with arms and ammunition in Palamu district of Jharkhand. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team conducted search operation and arrested three members of new ultra outfit 'Sashastra People's Morcha' (SPM) while two others escaped. Superintendent of Police, Y S Ramesh, said they were involved in setting ablaze three machines of a private firm, which were engaged in implementing social forestry project. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.
