Encephalitis threat looms over Assam

Guwahati, July 21 (ANI): Encephalitis syndrome threat looms large over in Assam, while experts have sounded alert due to significant rise in number of cases reported that have been tested positive. The deadly disease is gradually taking a toll in Guwahati city since the month of June and has resulted in death of four people so far. The deceased includes two adults and two children who were undergoing treatment in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Principal of Guwahati Medical College Hospital, Ramen Talukdar said that the patients suffering from the Japanese Encephalitis have been kept under strict observation in the hospital. Patients admitted in the hospital belong to the surrounding districts like Nalbari, Darrang and Goalpara. Around 22 districts of Assam are Encephalitis affected.

Hindus mark second Shravan Monday with special prayers and offerings

Varanasi, July 21 (ANI): Carrying assortment of religious offerings, devout Hindus thronged lord Shiva temples in north India to offer special prayers, as they marked the auspicious second Monday of month long 'Shravan' festival. The devotees on Monday gathered in large numbers to offer milk, curd, ghee, honey and holy water to Lord Shiva in wee hours of morning. Long queues of people waiting with assortment of religious offerings like joss sticks, red vermilion and flowers were seen outside the temples. The saffron-clad devotees of Lord Shiva known as Kanwaria take their foot journey to the Hindu pilgrimage places of Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to fetch holy waters of Ganges River.

Finance Minister to finalise tax collection roadmap with excise officials

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday met the top brass of the Income Tax department and Central Board of Direct Taxes and discussed all issues related to tax collection. Jaitley inaugurated the two-day annual conference of principal chief commissioners, principal director generals, chief commissioners and director generals of income tax in New Delhi. This is the 30th Annual Conference of heads of the Income Tax Department. The major focus during the two-day conference would be on the accountability of assessing officers, non-filers monitoring system, data warehousing and business intelligence, role of directorate of I and CI in changing scenario, search, seizure and surveys -study of effectiveness among others.

ABVP protests outside Bangalore School over 6-year old girl___s rape

Bangalore, July 21 (ANI): BJP___s youth wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), staged a protest outside the Vibgyor School in Bangalore where a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the school staff. The protesters broke the barricades and a scuffle between the protesters and police officials ensued. Meanwhile, Police also baton charged the protestors. On Sunday, police arrested a skating instructor in the case and will present the accused before the court. Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar had announced the arrest of Mustaffa after interrogation of eight persons, who have been detained for questioning.

Youth from northeast beaten to death in New Delhi, Commissioner says investigation underway

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): A youth, Shaloni from northeast was beaten to death by a group of unidentified men in New Delhi, an incident which again raised concerns over the security of people of Northeast living in the national capital. Shaloni___s friend, Milo, said on Monday, that five men came in a car and thrashed his friend. Speaking on the case, Delhi Police Commissioner, BS Bassi on Monday said that investigation is underway.

Gaza discussion to take place in Rajya Sabha, Politicos welcome move

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Political leader on Monday welcomed the move to discuss the Israel offensive in Gaza where the number of Palestinians killed rose to over 430, in Rajya Sabha. Politicos react over Markandey Katju_s remark on UPA saving corrupt judge

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Political leaders on Monday reacted over Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju_s statement claiming that the UPA government was forced by its ally to save a corrupt judge in Madras High Court. Congress leader Veerappa Moily said that Katju should have raised his voice at that time so that the government could have taken some action. Markandey Katju says TN ally forced UPA to save corrupt judge

Wall collapse in Bhopal kills two

Bhopal, July 21 (ANI): Police said on Monday two people have died after an extended wall of a guest house collapsed in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. The administration began operations to clear the debris after the extended wall of a VIP guest house collapsed early in the morning. The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. Superintendent of Police, north Bhopal, Arvind Saxena, said the injured were out of danger.
