New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi hosted an iftar party at Delhi's posh Ashoka Hotel on Sunday for the political leaders, both Muslims as well as Hindus. High dignitaries of politics came to attend the function, including Salman Khurshid, Ambika Soni, Anand Sharma, Rajiv Shukla among others. RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and JD (U) President Sharad Yadav were also present with Gandhi at the iftar ceremony. Iftar, refers to the evening meal when Muslims end their fast at the time of sunset, during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Protest by civil services aspirants intensifies

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): The protest by India's civil services aspirants' intensified on Sunday with four students sitting on a fast unto death, demanding the scrapping of some part of the new examination format, conducting of examination in regional languages, especially Hindi and postponement of the preliminary test. The protesters are planning to protest semi-naked on Sunday evening so that their message is heard loud and clear by the government. Earlier, the government told the parliament that it had asked a committee to submit its report on the issue within a week to give level-playing field to those coming from rural areas. The angry students had damaged vehicles and blocked road on Thursday (July 24) evening after the UPSC issued admit cards for the preliminary examination to be held on August 24. Lucknow, July 27 (ANI): The family members of the victim in the Mohanlalganj rape case sat on hunger strike on Sunday demanding CBI probe from the government. They said that the family now doesn't trust the police department and will continue the strike until a CBI probe is conducted. Earlier, in a new twist in the rape and murder case of the 32-year-old woman, forensic report has indicated that more than one person was involved in the crime. The report is contradictory to the police claims where it had ruled out gangrape with the woman. Ruling out gangrape, the police had earlier said that there was no sexual intercourse. Army recovers huge cache of arms and ammunitions from militant hideout in Kashmir

Baramulla, July 27 (ANI): Indian security forces busted a militant hideout in Kashmir's Baramulla district and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area on Sunday. A joint operation was launched by a branch of Indian army, Rashtriya Rifles, and provincial police after intelligence inputs. During the raid, the security forces seized AK-47, two magazines which consist of 225 rounds, 19 rounds of heavy calibre, 13 UBGL round, one communication set, three Chinese grenade, two rockets, three detonators and various other ammunitions. Recovered arms and ammunition were destroyed soon after the seizure. At least six people killed as high-tension wire fell on bus

Auraiya, July 27 (ANI): At least six people were killed and others injured when a high-tension wire fell on a bus and it caught fire in Erwakatra area, police said. When the private bus was being reversed, it hit an electricity pole and the high-tension wire fell on it after which it caught fire. The bus was going from Chhibramau area of Kannauj district to Vidhuna district in Auraiya. The injured are admitted to the government hospitals nearby. Villagers gathered at the spot and started pelting stones on officials accusing the electricity department for lack of safety measures. Jammu/ Saharanpur, July 27 (ANI): Condemning violence in UP, Sikhs protesters in Jammu on Sunday took to streets terming Saharanpur communal clashes as a conspiracy against minorities. They protested against the violence that erupted in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh in which three people were killed and over 24 got injured when two groups clashed over a disputed land adjoining Sikh temple. Police have arrested 24 people who were reportedly involved in fuelling the violence. Paramilitary forces were seen patrolling the street across the city.
