IOC lifts ban, tri-colour will fly at Sochi Winter Olympics

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has withdrawn the ban imposed on Indian Olympic Association (IOA), paving the way for India’s return to the Olympic fold. Speaking on the same former Vice President, IOA, VK Malhotra on Tuesday said that he is happy that the ban has been lifted by which India has returned to the Olympic fold. Three Indians could not take part in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics under the tri-colour due to India`s suspension by the IOC and the IOA had to draw flak from all quarters for bringing shame on the country. PDP creates chaos in Kashmir assembly over new administrative units

Jammu, Feb 11 (ANI): Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), disrupted the assembly session on Tuesday, as legislators created uproar over government’s approach in formulation of new administrative units. The opposition said that the state government discriminated against the Peer Panjal region of Rajouri and Poonch districts by granting sub-units on political considerations and ignoring the deserving areas. 15 die in a road accident in West Bengal

Malda, Feb 11 (ANI): 15 people were killed and one injured in a road accident in Malda after a speeding truck collided with two cars on Tuesday. According to the police, 12 men and a child were killed on the spot, and two out of the three injured people died in Malda Medical college and hospital. Lt Governor gives nod to SIT probe on 1984-anti Sikh riots

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung gave a nod to the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government's recommendations for a probe by Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the 1984-anti Sikh riots. Speaking over the decision senior lawyer of Delhi High Court H.S Phoolka said under the SIT probe, all those cases which were closed or shown untraced would be re-opened, re-investigated and if the need arises fresh FIRs would be registered. Police arrests five Maoists in Raipur

Raipur, Feb 11 (ANI): Police arrested five Maoists in Raipur. The arrest comes a day after the landmine blast by suspected rebellions in Sukma village that killed two and injured eight CRPF personnel. Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (Intelligence), Mukesh Gupta said that the five Maoists were arrested in Bijapur district of the region during a joint search operation. Andaman and Nicobar Lt Gov proposes slew of safety guidelines post boat tragedy

Port Blair, Feb 11 (ANI): Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, proposed a slew of security guidelines to ensure safety of tourists in an aftermath of the boat capsize tragedy that claimed 21 lives off Port Blair. Singh accepted that boat safety rules were slightly shaky and needed a serious review after the recent capsize tragedy so that such incidents do not repeat. Singh also said the islands were faced with many other issues such as lack of educational institutions and better healthcare centres. Pakistan air force to provide training to Iraqi air force

Islamabad, Feb 11 (ANI): Commander of the Iraqi Air Force, Lt. General Anwer Hamad Ameen Ahmed, who is on a visit to Pakistan with a nine-member delegation, met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. A statement issued from the Prime Minister’s office said, during the meeting with Sharif, two agreements were signed between PAF and the Iraqi air force. According to the first agreement, PAF will provide training to Iraq Air Defence Force personnel in all spheres of modern Air Force concepts pertaining to special Air Defence and Air Crew. The agreement was signed by Pakistan’s Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt from the Pakistani side and General Ahmed from the Iraqi side. Feb 11, 2014
