Tripura's tea industry ailing due to dry spell

Tripura, May 18 (ANI): Tea planters in Tripura fear a massive fall in leaf production as the prolonged dry spell can push the industry into a crisis situation. In large areas the bushes have become almost black in colour as the buds have started dying up due to the excessive temperature in spite of artificial irrigation. The workers complained that due to inadequate rainfall they were incurring losses as they were paid on daily basis and during the lean period they do not have much work or any extra income. EC submits list of newly elected MPs to President

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): The Election Commission on Sunday submitted the list of newly elected members of the 16th Lok Sabha to President Pranab Mukherjee. A three-member EC team headed by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath handed over the list containing the names of all 543 Members of Parliament to the President. The statue is a dedication by the owner of Prabhakar wax museum, Chandrashekhar, who excels in the profession of crafting wax figurines. Chandrashekhar Prabhakar who has been carving wax statues for the past ten years said that he makes the statues so that people can take inspiration from them. JD (U) leaders demand Nitish Kumar to retract his resignation as Bihar CM

Patna, May 18 (ANI): A day after Nitish Kumar resigned as the chief minister of Bihar taking responsibility for the bad performance of JD (U) in the state, his party leaders on Sunday staged a protest outside his house in Patna asking him to continue as their leader and retract his resignation. Earlier, JD (U) President Sharad Yadav said that his party MLAs will elect a new leader to end the political uncertainty in the state after a party meeting at 4:00 pm on Sunday. The statement from Yadav came amid reports that the party may consider taking support from Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD to form the government. Fire engulfs factory near Delhi, fire tenders swing into action

Noida, May 18 (ANI): A raging fire engulfed a water jar manufacturing factory in the wee hours of Sunday in Noida and over a dozen fire tenders swung into action to douse the inferno. No causalities or burn injuries have been reported so far. A short circuit is said to have caused the inferno. Fire fighters had to struggle for hours to douse the blaze. Police said over a dozen fire tenders were immediately set in action to ensure that there was not much loss to the property. According to eyewitnesses, the fire suddenly emanated after a blast was heard on the second floor of the factory building. Factory workers said the inferno was uncontrollable at first as a result it spread fast to other floors due to delay in the arrival of fire controlling unit. May 18, 2014

Lalu on possibility of alliance with JD (U)
