Ethnic Dhimal community threatens not to cast vote in LS polls

Darjeeling, March 09 (ANI): Ethnic Dhimal community residing in Maoists inflicted area of West Bengal on Sunday threatened not to cast their vote in the upcoming general elections on account of not being recognized as a tribe. The Dhimal community resides in Ketugaborjote village near Darjeeling district. They claim that they are facing economic problems and receive no support from the government. Many of them had to give up on education due to shortage of money and are working outside Bengal, some in Kerala and some in Delhi as daily labour. They are still recognized as Other Backward Classes (OBC). The people here have refused to wait unless they avail the ‘tribal’ status. Mar 9, 2014

New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI): Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday held a press conference in which he said that his ticket will be decided by the Parliamentary board. Further speaking on a ‘poster war’ between him and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, he said that there is no poster war as is reported by the media. Hardcore Maoist leader surrenders before police in Odisha

Malkangiri, March 09 (ANI): Top female Maoist leader Debe Podiami alias Sandhya, surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district of Odisha. She surrendered before Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jaswant Jethwa and Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh. Sandhya had a bounty of 5,00,000 rupees (nearly USD 8164.73) on her head. Following her surrender, the police gave her 50, 000 rupees cash as a part of provincial government’s package. She will get compensations in accordance with provisions of surrender package of Odisha government for Maoists. The 30-year-old hardcore Maoist was the committee member of Malkangiri-Koraput border and member of outlawed CPI (Maoist) outfit. Mar 9, 2014

LS polls: Politicos react as MM Joshi questions Rajnath over Varanasi seat

New Delhi/ Nagpur, Mar 9 (ANI): A month ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the internal strife within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came out in open when the party announced its second list of candidates in a meeting. During the meeting which was attended by BJP's top brass, senior party leaders Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi questioned party president Rajnath Singh for allegedly trying to force Joshi out of Varanasi. Sources present at the party meeting said that Varanasi parliamentary seat was a major point of contention in the meeting. Joshi, the sitting MP from Varanasi asked Rajnath to make clear whether the Varanasi seat be given to him or not. AK Antony just passing time: Bharat Verma

New Delhi, March 09 (ANI): Defence Expert Bharat Verma on Sunday said that naval accidents are happening due to defects in equipment manufacturing and that Defence Minister AK Antony was just passing his time and doing nothing about the issue. A civilian worker was killed and two were injured in an accident at the under-construction nuclear submarine at the shipbuilding centre of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam on Saturday evening. On Friday a Navy officer was killed in an accident on the yet to be commissioned Kolkata class destroyer that is currently undergoing trials in Mumbai after a malfunction in its fire fighting system.
