Japanese companies use ICT to boost farming

Tokyo, Mar 19 (ANI): To give a fillip to farming, companies like Fujitsu are promoting research to bring in innovation through Information and Communication Technology or ICT. In Shizuoka prefecture, the company runs a project called Akisai, a cloud computing service to support farming. In this greenhouse, various types of environmental data are collected and an appropriate condition is automatically controlled from the computer centre. Since climate change is a big concern in Japan, it is important to control the environment for greenhouse horticulture. The environmental control box is the information gateway to the computer center and is the intelligent operator of the equipment. Akisai is already used by about 160 clients, including educational institutions, where future farmers study streamlined operations and business management. Mar 19, 2014

BJP on Mulayam to contest from Azamgarh to counter 'Modi effect'

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will contest Lok Sabha polls from Azamgarh parliamentary seat along with his traditional Mainpuri seat. The move to field Mulayam from Azamgarh, a constituency dominated by Yadavs and Muslims which is near to Varanasi, is seen as an attempt to counter the BJP. It is said that by fielding Mulayam from Azamgarh, the party hopes it would have a cascading effect on other constituencies and would prevent the BJP from capitalizing on the "Modi effect." Vladimir Putin calls PM Manmohan Singh to discuss situation in Ukraine

New Delhi, Mar 19 (ANI): Russian President Vladimir Putin called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the evolving situation in Ukraine and recent referendum in Crimea, said foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin. Defying Ukrainian protests and Western sanctions, Putin signed a treaty on Tuesday making Crimea part of Russia again but said he did not plan to seize any other regions of Ukraine. Singh, meanwhile, expressed his hopes that all sides would exercise restraint and work together constructively to find political and diplomatic solutions that protect the legitimate interest of all the countries and ensured long term peace and stability in Europe and beyond. Police arrest six militants, recover arms in Punjab

Patiala, Mar 19 (ANI): Police on Tuesday arrested six militants from Babbar Khalsa group in Punjab and recovered weapons from them. Addressing a news conference in Patiala district of Punjab, Senior Superintendent of Police, H.S. Mann, said that four weapons were recovered from the militants. Police arrest two Maoists in Jharkhand

Gumla, Mar 19 (ANI): Police have arrested two Maoists working for rebel outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Maoist affected Gumla district of Jharkhand. Acting on a tip off, police arrested the two Maoists from two different locations. Two pistols and three bullets were recovered from the rebels. Tuti said the two were planning to execute a crime, and the residents of the area helped in getting them arrested.
