New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday said that condition in Jammu and Kashmir is very bad due to floods. Singh said that state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also visited the affected areas and the Home Minister Rajnath Singh has been intimidated about the situation. He added that the home minister has given directions to make all possible help available to the people.

Reactions pour in as LG seeks President's permission to invite single largest party for Delhi govt

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): LG's appeal to the President to invite the single largest party to form the government in Delhi invited many reactions from leaders of different parties. Satish Upadhyay, President of the BJP unit in Delhi said that until now their party has not been approached and if and when they are invited, they will analyze it and will do what is beneficial for the people of Delhi. However, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Arvinder Singh Lovely said that such a step is unnecessary as BJP had declined the offer to form the government earlier and if BJP wishes to form the government, then it means BJP is afraid of contesting the elections.

PM Modi to give Teachers' Day speech, mixed reactions flow

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ready to address the students on Teachers' Day, mixed reactions came up from different party leaders. BJP leaders Sambit Patra and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi applauded the PM for this step saying that this is a pro-active step and that the Prime Minister feels that teachers form the backbone of the country. Naqvi commenting on the opposition parties criticizing this step said that it is a relief that they are only criticizing the step and not saying that this was their original idea and BJP has stolen it from them. Congress leader Manish Tewari condemning Modi's step appealed to the parents that they should challenge the circulars stating about Modi's speech to be telecasted in the school in the court and that such a step is legally incorrect. CPI leader D Raja said that although such a step is improper, for now, people should wait and see about what the PM talks to the children.

CBI Director rules out resignation saying he did nothing wrong, politicos react

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Politicos gave mixed reactions on Friday as CBI Director Ranjit Sinha ruled out his resignation saying that he did nothing wrong. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that the matter is already in the Supreme Court and soon a judgment will be given. NCP leader Majid Memon said that the Court will decide about the allegations on basis of proofs given and added that coming to conclusions would not be correct. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that CBI has its own norms of working and Court will decide whether the allegations against Sinha are correct or not.

Australian PM Tony Abbott arrives at Presidents House, meets PM Modi

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is on a two-day visit in India received a ceremonial reception at the President’s House in Delhi on Friday. Present at the event to receive Abbott were Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung. The Australian PM also received the guard of honour at his arrival. Later, Abbott also visited the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to pay his respect to the martyrs. Nagaland CM TR Zeliang suggestsLine of control to ease border tensions

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang suggested demarcating a 'Line of Control' to ensure that no new settlement comes up at the disputed inter-state boundaries of neighbouring Assam and Nagaland in a bid to ease the tension. Assam and Nagaland have been claiming tracts of land along the state limits since the creation of Nagaland more than four decades ago. The latest wave of violence has left at least 20 dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, officials said. Zeliang said Rajnath Singh had agreed upon churning a quick solution to the problem.

Rare Rhino struggles for life after falling in Teesta river canal

Jalpaiguri, Sep 05 (ANI): A rare one horned Rhino struggled for life after it fell in Teesta river canal near Kahatambari forest of Jalpaiguri division in West Bengal. The forest guards rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the Rhino with the help of two captive elephants hired from Gurumara National Park, but failed to save the pachyderm. The forest guards made an artificial route after breaking an embankment of the canal. Meanwhile, a member of an NGO said the forest guards were not using the right technique to carry out the rescue operation, which could be fatal for the one horned Rhino. The thick-skinned, one-horned Indian rhinoceros is one of the five rare surviving species in the world.

UN should not allow Rajapaksa to address general assembly: Vaiko

Coimbatore, Sep 05 (ANI): General Secretary of MDMK, Vaiko urged the United Nations to withdraw Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's invitation to deliver his address at the General Assembly. Referring to the alleged war crimes committed by Sri Lankan army during the civil war that ended in 2009, Vaiko said that Rajapaksa has committed the inferable crime of genocide of Tamil, and that he should be tried by the international court. An independent international investigation, he added, has been ordered by Human rights Commissioner, but Rajapaksa has the audacity to say that he will not permit the investigation team to enter Sri Lanka.
