Kathua, Sep 07 (ANI): More than 100 people, including children and women, were evacuated from various villages in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir as floods, triggered by heavy downpours, caused destruction in the region. The Red Cross society along with district administration has provided tents, medical aid and food to affected families. The flood-affected people are shifting their valuables and luggage along with their live stocks to safer places and shelter homes provided by the district administration. Jammu and Kashmir, Sep 07 (ANI): In a joint operation, staff of Indian Army and Air Force rescued security personnel of paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) and civilians from flood-affected areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities declared a disaster alert after two days of heavy rain hit villages across Kashmir, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Heavy rain is expected and the state's main river, the Jhelum, and its tributaries are flowing several feet above the danger mark. Flash floods triggered by heavy downpours caused destruction as authorities closed four bridges connecting the two parts of Jammu after suffering severe damage. New Delhi, Sep 06 (ANI): Following the Supreme Court's decision, Central government has appealed the Chief Ministers of the states and the Chief Justices of the High Courts to expedite cases against MPs and MLAs facing charges of serious crimes. NCP leader Majid Memon appreciating SC's decision said that the MPs who are guilty will be removed from their position and MPs with false charges will be free from them. BJP leader Bizay Sonkar Shastri also supported the Court's verdict and said no culprits should exist in politics. Abdullah said that situation is getting better in Jammu and water level has started to fall down. He said that the government is focusing upon relief work followed by rehabilitation of the rescued people. He then said that situation is worsening in areas of Kashmir where water level has risen up to the level of first floors. He said that Central Government has helped the State with boats for recue and officers have been deployed to assess the situation and focus on the medical facilities is being laid. Modi had called a review meeting on Saturday where Home Minister Rajnath Singh, after touring the flood-affected areas, briefed him. "Fragrances of the Northeast" festival promotes films, food and craft of the region in capital Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 07 (ANI): The three-day long film festival at Siri Fort Auditorium complex in Delhi attracted a large crowd. Inaugurated by Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, the festival showcased eight films from the Northeast. They included Jhanu Barua's Assamese film Ajeyo and Pradip Kurbah's Khasi film Ri: A Homeland of Uncertainty. Several film personalities from the northeastern states were felicitated during the event. On the opening day, Assamese singer and composer Papon along with his band 'The East India Company' enthralled the audience. He sang a number of his hits in Assamese, Punjabi and Bollywood songs as well. Internationally-acclaimed Naga pianist and singer Nise Meruno and choir group "Nagaland Singing Ambassadors" also mesmerized the audiences with their dazzling performances.
