Srinagar/ Jammu, Sep 07 (ANI): The worst flooding in Jammu and Kashmir, in the last 60 years, wreaked havoc in Srinagar city on Sunday as residents blamed the state government for not doing much, especially for tourists. Although heavy rains stopped on Saturday afternoon, flood waters rose sharply overnight in Srinagar, a city of 900,000, catching many people living in low-lying areas unawares. About 22 air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate stranded people and to deliver relief. About 120 army units and eight teams of police reservists, equipped with boats and life jackets, were in action. A handful of tourists who visited the temple urged the concerned authorities to improve the infrastructure so that the historic temple attracts more tourists. Buddhist priests do not travel during monsoon and instead sit in one place to meditate, which is known as "varsavash" or the three month long period when monks remain in their monasteries and elders of the community fast and observe abstinence. According to local folklore, Lord Buddha visited this temple in Rajgir and spent his varsavash. Students of Christ Raja Mission School cooked food themselves to celebrate Teacher's Day and started vomiting soon after consuming it. The children fell sick within minutes of eating the meal and started vomiting and convulsing with stomach cramps. They were taken to a government hospital.
