Postal stamps on Narendra Modi issued in Bihar

Patna, May 29 (ANI): Department of Posts issued special stamps on Prime Minister Narendra Modi made by a philatelist in Bihar. The stamps and a special cover conceptualised by philatelist Pradeep Jain depicted Modi in four different poses and the special cover showed him emerging from a lotus. Jain said that he got the idea of 'My Stamp' during the inauguration of Barack Obama as United States President. It was a global event and stamps were released in Washington. The stamps and the cover were released on Modi's swearing-in ceremony on May 26. Impressed by his work, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted him to get few of the stamps to send them to the neighbouring countries. May 29, 2014

First session of 16th Lok Sabha from June 4

New Delhi, May 29 (ANI): The Union Cabinet has recommended convening of the first session of the 16th Lok Sabha from June 4 to June 11. Briefing the reporters, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu confirmed that the first session of 16th Lok Sabha will be held from June 4 to June 11. Naidu said that former parliamentary affairs minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath will be the Protem Speaker, who will perform the duties of the office of the Speaker till the election of Speaker. "During the inaugural session of the 16th Lok Sabha, newly-elected members to Lower House will take oath on June 4 and 5," Naidu said. The first session will also witness election of the new Speaker and the joint address by the President to the two Houses. The Rajya Sabha session will begin on June 9 with a joint address by the President Pranab Mukherjee, Naidu said. May 29, 2014

Surat, May 29 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in a high-rise building in Surat on Thursday morning. As per initial reports, the fire first broke out at Vipul Sarees' shop located on the fourth floor of the 17-story Orchid Tower and quickly spread to other floors. There are no reports of casualties so far. New Delhi, May 29 (ANI): Women activists on Thursday condemned the gang-rape of two teen girls in Badaun. The girls were allegedly gang-raped and later hanged from a tree in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district on Wednesday. The two girls, who were cousins aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on Tuesday night. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in Katra village on Wednesday morning. The incident triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy following which an FIR was registered against seven persons including constables Sarvesh Yadav and Rakshapal Yadav, who were suspended. As soon as the news spread, villagers gathered at the site and claimed that police had refused to register an FIR on Tuesday night. Four people, including a constable were arrested on Thursday.
