Xi Jinping pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): Chinese President Xi Jinping paid homage at the mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday (September 18) followed by his wife Peng Liyuan. Xi Jinping was accompanied by HRD Minister Smriti Irani to the Rajghat where he laid a wreath at Gandhi's memorial. He then wrote a few words in the guest book at Rajghat and was presented with a few books on Mahatma Gandhi along with a model of 'charkha'. Jinping is on a three day visit to India which started with his arrival in Ahmedabad on September 17. China and India have signed three agreements to boost trade and set up an industrial park.

No control by China on LAC, Jinping's visit focused on economic ties: China Affairs Expert

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): Expert on Chinese Affairs, Srikanth Kondapalli said on Thursday that the People's Liberation Army are sending signal to civilian leaders not to have any fruitful talks on border disputes between China and India. He further said that there is hardly any civilian control at Line of Actual Control areas. He added that Jinping's visit is mainly focused on economic ties between India and China.

Flood fury in Kashmir leaves migrants stranded

Srinagar/Kathua, Sep 18 (ANI): Migrants hailing from Gujarat cried out for help as widespread mayhem caused by floods in Jammu and Kashmir has left many stranded. Residents stranded for days by the floodwaters said that the army has selectively evacuated tourists and people according to a pre-set priority list, leaving locals to be rescued later by volunteers. Migrant workers and poor people say they are all still struggling for basic amenities like safe drinking water, food packets and blankets. A woman migrant, Geeta, living in a makeshift hut inside a camp set up by paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), said they had nowhere to go since their houses submerged in flood waters. Deputy Inspector General of BSF, Vikas Chandra, said they are in the process of shifting migrants back to Gujarat.

Arunachal's Solung Festival Celebrated With Pomp And Gaiety

Arunachal Pradesh,New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): A large number of people, including students and politicians from the Northeast residing in the capital came together at the Constitution Club to celebrate the harvest festival of the Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh- Solung. Dressed in colorful attires, artists presented various traditional dances to mark the festival. Union Minister of state for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and DoNER minister General (Rtd.) VK Singh, who attended the event along with other Members of Parliament, emphasized on the need to showcase the rich culture of the northeast in other parts.

Issues of substance already raised at highest level with China: MEA

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Thursday said that issues of substance have already been raised at the highest level with Chinese leadership. He assured that all issues of concern including recent Chinese incursions will be raised today and the outcome will also be soon observed. Akbaruddin further said that the Foreign Ministry will work to pursue areas of cooperation between India and China.

Chinese President Xi Jinping receives ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): Chinese President Xi Jinping was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday. Jinping was received in a grand welcome ceremony followed by the Guard of Honour. He then met President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other union ministers including Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Jinping arrived in New Delhi Wednesday night after a private dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat.

Jinping arrives in Delhi post private dinner with PM Modi at riverfront

Ahmedabad, Sep 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a private dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad after which Jinping arrived in New Delhi. Modi, Xi and other dignitaries visited the riverfront, which was Modi's pet project when he was chief minister of Gujarat. The site was decked up with colourful lighting and fountains for the rare occasion and artistes performed traditional dance to entertain the dignitaries. The private dinner was attended by limited number of guests, probably five persons from each side, where traditional Gujarati food was served. After the dinner, Xi left for New Delhi to have meeting with Modi, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and other leaders.
