Congress condemns 'Damad Shree' video released by BJP

New Delhi/ Lucknow, April 28 (ANI): Congress on Sunday condemned BJP's video 'Damad Shree' which attacked Robert Vadra and his land deals on a large scale. Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that Modi wave was a false propaganda and that people will see what bad ways BJP is taking to attack Congress. Rashid Alvi also condemned such an act. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that this is the same old stale matter, just wrapped in a booklet and CD. He also said that the BJP has no facts on this. Suspected SIMI operative arrested from Bhopal

Bhopal, April 28 (ANI): Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested suspected Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist Gulrez Mustafa from Bhopal railway station. Action against Mustafa, a resident of Choti Gwaltoli locality of Indore, who was on ATS radar for long, came on the basis intelligence inputs. Gulrez is believed to have helped terror suspect Abu Faisal alias doctor to escape to Mahidpur via Indore after escaping from Khandwa jail on October 1, 2013. In December last year, ATS had nabbed Faisal and two accomplices on December 24, 2013. Carrying a reward of Rs 15,000, Gulrez was on the run and was arrested with Faisal in 2007 from a hotel in Indore. Apr 28, 2014

Gilgit-Baltistan ruthlessly exploited by Pakistan

Geneva, April 28: Gilgit Baltistan that was annexed from the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir is located strategically between Pakistan, India, China and Afghanistan. It has been controlled by Pakistan for decades now, and suffers from sectarian violence, militancy, poverty and unemployment. Senge Hashan Sering, president of the U.S. based Institute for Gilgit Baltistan Studies, blamed Pakistan for exploiting the region and fulfilling its own strategic interests. Guard of honour for two Army officers killed in Shopian encounter

New Delhi, April 28 (ANI): The security personnel, who were killed in an encounter in Shopian town of Jammu and Kashmir, were given guard of honour by the Indian Army. Major Mukund Vardarajan and sepoy Vikram Singh were killed by militants during an overnight gun battle that started Friday in Shopian. The bodies were flown back to Delhi from Srinagar and is being sent to their respective hometowns. While Major Vardarajan’s body is sent to his home in Chennai, while sepoy Vikram Singh’s body will be arriving at his home in Haryana. Northern Commander of the Indian Army Lieutenant General, Sanjiv Chachra laid wreath on the coffins during the guard of honour and acknowledged Major Vardarajan’s leadership while respecting his sacrifice. Inadequate rainfall adds to misery of farmers in Maharashtra

Aurangabad/ Jammu, April 28 (ANI): Absence of proper rainfall has risked the farm lands of Aurangabad district in Maharashtra and lack of subsequent effective government intervention is leaving farmers with no option but suicide. According to climate report of researchers there are high chances of climatic conditions similar to El Nino effect to occur in 14 districts of Maharashtra. Farmers of Marathwada region in Aurangabad have been experiencing difficult times for the last three years. The farmers of Marathwada complained that the government has not intervened at any juncture to assist them and stop farmers from committing suicide. India successfully test- fires Prithvi Defence Vehicle

Balasore, April 28 (ANI): India successfully test-fired an anti-ballistic missile dubbed as Prithvi Defence Vehicle (PDV) at Wheeler Island in Balasore district of Odisha. The missile has been developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The organization called the test-fire a significant step. This came as a significant milestone in the direction of developing a two layered Ballistic Missile Defence system and the mission aims to engage the targets in the exo-atmosphere region at an altitude of more than 120 kilometres. Both PDV interceptor and the two stage target equipped with motors have been developed to achieve PDV mission. The target further developed to mimic a “hostile Ballistic Missile approaching from more than 2000 km away” was launched from a ship in the Bay of Bengal. Apr 28, 2014

Pak protests in support of ISI against Hamid Mir

Karachi/ Islamabad, April 28 (ANI): Pakistanis continued to hold demonstrations as hundreds took to streets on Sunday in support of the armed forces, a week after prominent news channel reported that country's powerful spy agency was behind the shooting of one of Pakistan's most famous journalists. Hamid Mir, a veteran talk-show presenter at Geo News, survived the attack after unidentified gunmen shot him multiple times in the port city of Karachi on April 19. Geo television has since repeatedly accused the ISI of being behind the shooting. The military has denied the accusation. More than two hundred people from religious group, Sunni Ittehad Council marched to the office of Geo television and staged a sit-in outside the office blocking the road for several hours. Thousands of pilgrims gather as Vatican declares Popes John Paul II & John XXIII saints

Vatican City, April 27 (ANI): Tens of thousands of pilgrims tried to move past barricades around the Vatican in the early hours of Sunday morning in an effort to be in pole position for the canonisation ceremony that declared Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII saints. It is the first time two popes have been canonised at the same time. Giant screens were set up in nearby streets and elsewhere in the city for those unable to get into the square. Thousands of Polish pilgrims crammed into streets around the Vatican after having spent the night dancing and singing.
