Nitin Gadkari denies chief ministerial post in Maharashtra

Nagpur, Oct 23 (ANI): Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday (October 23) denied chief ministerial post to head Maharashtra after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 122 out of 288 seats in state polls. Gadkari held a meeting with probable chief ministerial candidate Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur city. Gadkari said he was happy to play his role in New Delhi, adding that people should not compare him with his party colleague and state unit of BJP in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis. Gadkari got backing of 39 elected BJP legislators for the post of chief minister.

Asian Games medalists felicitated

New Delhi/ Manipur, Oct 23 (ANI): The medal winners of the recently-concluded 17th Asian Games met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The Prime Minister congratulated the sportspersons and expressed hope that they will continue bringing laurels for the country. The medal winners were also felicitated by the Sports Ministry at an event in the Capital. Union sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and other MPs were present at the event. While the gold medal winners were awarded Rs.20 lakh each, the silver and bronze medalists got Rs 10 and 6 lakh each respectively. The recently concluded Asian Games held in Incheon in South Korea saw India finish at the eighth position in the medal's tally. At a separate felicitation programme boxer MC Mary Kom was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of India's Incheon Asian Games campaign. The pugilist was awarded a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh by the organizers. The Manipur government also felicitated the Asian games medal winners and participants from the state at an event at the Khuman Lampak sports complex.

Separatists call for shutdown in Kashmir to protest PM Modi's visit, Politicos react

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Thursday after separatists called for a complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Diwali. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the separatist are very isolated group and doesn’t have the power to change people’s thinking. BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said that the separatist have a realization that promotion of militancy is going to stop in the valley and hence they are nervous and calling for shutdown. NCP leader Majid Memon said that the government should look into the matter and take proper actions to curb militancy in the valley.

CBI files first chargesheet in Saradha Scam

New Delhi/ Lucknow, Oct 23 (ANI): The CBI has filed its first chargesheet in Saradha scam which was being probed under a panel headed by Justice Shyamal Sen, whose tenure is ending on Thursday. Political reactions were followed on Thursday by the course of events in the scam. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that the law will take its course after the chargesheet is filed. NCP leader Majid Memon said that filing of chargesheet marks an end to investigation and opening of trial. CPI leader Atul Anjan said that Saradha scam is one of the deadliest scam of West Bengal in which various well known personalities have been allegedly involved.

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who left for Siachen earlier today to spend Diwali with soldiers and flood-affected victims of Kashmir, has greeted the nation on the festive occasion. Tibetan Parliament in-exile extends Diwali greetings to India

Dharamshala, Oct 23 (ANI): Members of Tibetan Parliament in-exile in Dharamshala extended Diwali greetings to all Indians on Thursday. Speaker of Parliament in-exile Penpa Tsering said that Tibetans also have a lighting of lamps ceremony which is to commemorate the birth of the founder of Gelupa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and the ceremony is very similar to the Diwali celebrations that take place in India. India and Mexico sign bilateral agreement on space cooperation

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): India and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on space cooperation. The two countries will work together in remote sensing, satellite communication and areas relating to peaceful use of outer space. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj had met her Mexican counterpart Jose Antonio Meade Kuribrena, who is on a four-day visit, in New Delhi. Kuribrena emphasized that Mexico's relationship with India among the G20 nations was very close as his country was an important part of India's value-chain in the manufacturing sector. Swaraj reiterated Kuribrena's sentiment and said that the relations between New Delhi and Mexico City had immense potential to grow as Mexico was India's leading trade partner in Latin America.

Indo-Bangladesh border troops exchange Diwali sweets with fervor

Akhaura, Oct 23 (ANI): As goodwill gesture on the occasion of Diwali, the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), stationed along the India-Bangladesh border at Akhaura exchanged sweets with their counterparts. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF, BS Tolia, gave sweets boxes to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official Saifur, while greeting them on the occasion of Diwali to be celebrated on Thursday. He also extended his greetings to all the residents of Bangladesh on behalf of the BSF. The gesture was equally reciprocated by BGB officials and jawans. Troopers of both sides hugged each other and shook hands. BGB official, Saifur, said that exchange of sweets bridges the gaps and bring both sides closer.
