Indians return from conflict zone of Iraq, situation worsens

New Delhi, June 23 (ANI): Indians returned home from conflict zone of Iraq on Monday, as the fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) advanced to capital Baghdad, according to authorities. Many people working in Basra city of Iraq heaved a sigh of relief when they returned home safely in New Delhi. Militants from ISIL, along with other Sunni rebels, are reported to have abducted dozens of foreigners, including Indian nationals, as they swept through towns in the Tigris valley north of Baghdad in recent days. Forty Indian nationals worked for a Baghdad-based construction company, Tariq Noor Al Huda, when they were abducted in Iraq's second largest city of Mosul after it fell to Sunni Muslim rebel. On Monday, Indian national who returned from Basra city, Dharmendra Kumar Yadav, said his company made all adequate arrangements for his safe return. BMC officials reach Campa Cola Society to cut gas, water and power supply

Mumbai, June 23 (ANI): Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Monday reached the Campa Cola Housing Society to disconnect the gas, water and power supply from the illegal flats in the compound. Gun battle between Indian security forces and militants rages in Kashmir

Sopore, June 23 (ANI): Indian security forces and militants engaged in fierce gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, as forces launched search operations to trace the rebels hiding in a house. Security personnel cordoned off the area in Sopore town after reports surfaced that at least two to three rebels were hiding in the house. The operation began after a search party was fired upon by the militants. Yesterday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) put up three separate notices for Delhi University, the colleges under it and students and parents, saying that the four-year undergraduate programme has been scrapped. Centre appeals to militant outfits to shun violence after a police officer killed in Assam

Assam, June 23 (ANI): Nitya Nanda Goswami, the Superintendent of Police, of Hamren police district was leading an operation against the insurgent outfit in remote Rongthang forest area where they came face-to-face with the militants. The police team retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, Goswami and his personal security guard were killed. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited Karbi Anglong to pay tribute slain Superintendent of Police and his personal security guard.
