DU teachers backing FYUP, go on hunger strike over DU-UGC tussle

New Delhi, June 24 (ANI): With the standoff between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Delhi University (DU) continuing, the university teachers who are in favour of the Four-year Undergraduate Programme hold a hunger strike on Tuesday. Spain fans finally celebrated a 3-0 win against Australia in 2014 FIFA world Cup

Brazil, June 24 (ANI): Spain fans were finally able to celebrate a win in Brazil after their side ended an embarrassing campaign with a 3-0 win over Australia who left the World Cup winless. The win was more a matter of pride for the defending world champions who had no chance of advancing to the final 16 after losing their first two matches of the tournament. Even after their 3-0 victory over a battling but already-eliminated Australia salvaged some dignity, the departing champions always knew they'd be packing their bags no matter what the outcome. TN professor develops robot to save children trapped in borewells

Tamil Nadu, June 24 (ANI): A 43-year-old college professor from Tamil Nadu, M Manikandan has developed a unique robot, which can rescue children who accidentally fall into open borewells – answering prayers of parents who have had the misfortune of their children falling into narrow open pits. Manikandan said he was inspired to invent the robot after his own son fell into a borewell almost a decade ago -- but was luckily rescued. Professor Manikandan developed the nine-feet-long robot with human-like arms along with clamps resembling fingers that can clutch and pull the trapped child out of borewell. Government to act tough against GNLA militants in Meghalaya

Meghalaya, June 24 (ANI): The Meghalaya police got into a gun battle with GNLA militants in East Garo Hills after busting their camp in Durama forests. The crackdown was launched after two cadres of the militant outfit brutally killed a 32–year–old Garo woman by suspecting her to be a police informer. The Centre has rushed 10 companies of additional paramilitary forces to assist the state police. Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the Assam-based anti-talk factions of ULFA and NDFB were also active in the Garo Hills and were in cohorts with the GNLA. The government is stressing on strengthening the state's police force to tackle rising terrorism in the Garo Hills.
