Parents protest against assault of minor girl in school in Bangalore

Bangalore, July 17 (ANI): Agitated parents protested in Vibgyor High School in Bangalore as a 6 year old girl was sexually assaulted in the school. The parents said the school _tried to cover up the matter_ and did not inform them about the incident, which took place on July 2. The Chairman of the school, Rustom Kerawala, assured that safety measures will be improved in school to keep all the students safe. He added that the school authorities are co-operating in investigation and confirmed that the suspected accused have been taken in police custody. However, the parents said they are not satisfied by the statements the school is giving. Meanwhile, Bangalore DCP TD Pawar said that the matter was reported quite late but he assured that action will be taken against the culprits. Reportedly, the girl was taken to a hospital after she expressed discomfort at home, which was when it was revealed that she was raped. Sushil Modi condemns Jehanabad woman assault incident

Indian workers return home from war torn Iraq

New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Indian workers who were caught up in the fighting in war torn Iraq arrived home on Thursday, while many others are still held captive by the suspected fighters of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Recalling his ordeal, a worker Hind Nath Sharma said that with the efforts of Indian government they have been able to come back to their homes safely. Expressing gratitude towards Indian embassy and government, another worker, who was stranded in Iraq, Ravinder Kumar said the situation has worsened in the strife-torn country. Gunbattle between militants and security forces continue in area near Kabul airport

Kabul, July 17 (ANI): A fierce gunbattle continued between the Afghan security forces and militants who had climbed up a nearby building to shoot at the Kabul International Airport on Thursday. The attack on the airport, used by civilians and the military, comes at a time of great uncertainty for Afghanistan as votes from the second round of a disputed presidential election are to be recounted. The poll is meant to mark Afghanistan_s first democratic transfer of power. Officials said a number of militants had burst into a building just north of the airport but were quickly surrounded by Afghan forces. Kabul police said the airport was undamaged, and one police officer suffered minor injuries and it was unclear how many insurgents were involved. Indian families await safe return of their relatives from strife-torn Iraq

Gurdaspur, July 17 (ANI): Families in Gurdaspur district of Punjab are worried as they await the safe return of their children from strife-torn Iraq. About 10,000 Indians work in Iraq, mostly in areas unaffected by the fighting, but scores of them have returned to India since ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) began its offensive. Harjeet Masih, one among the forty abducted workers, had fled to Iraq 11 months back to earn money for his family. Unfortunately, he was abducted by the Iraq militants on June 12.
