PM Modi lauds BSF's 'dedication and valour' on its 49th Raising Day

New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Appreciating the contribution of the Border Security Force (BSF) towards national security on its 49th Raising Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that their dedication and valour always inspire the country. PM Modi tweeted, "On BSF Raising Day, we salute our BSF personnel, who tirelessly and courageously protect our borders. Their dedication and valour always inspire." Meanwhile, in national capital Delhi, the Border Security Force (BSF) is celebrating its 49th Raising day. The force was raised on December 1, in 1965. Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh is also present at the occasion. The BSF is being extensively utilised on internal security duties in several states. Besides, it is manning 3,323 kms length Indo-Pakistan border, which runs through the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, Dec 1 (ANI): Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday addressed the 49th BSF Raising Day celebrations in New Delhi. Singh said that for the BSF jawans country's pride is of utmost importance. Singh even praised BSF personnel for giving a befitting reply to Pakistan's ceasefire violations. Singh further promised to provide better facilities to the BSF security personnel.

At least eight people injured, several feared trapped in under construction building collapse

Loni, Dec 01 (ANI): At least eight people were seriously injured and many other are feared trapped when an under construction building collapsed on labourers at an industrial park in Loni. Around 80 people were said to be present at the construction site when the scaffolding gave way but the exact number could not be confirmed by the police. The ground floor that was under construction sprawled across a large area. Police and district administration has reached the spot to oversee the rescue and relief operations, while work is underway to remove the debris.

NC sarpanch shot dead by unidentified gunmen

Shopian, Dec 01 (ANI): An elected village-head of the National Conference was shot dead by suspected militants at his home in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. NC village-head Mohammad Sultan Bhat, 38, was killed after suspected militants stopped his car and shot him while he was on his way home in Nazimpora on Sunday night. Bhat had died before being shifted to a medical hospital. According to the media reports, uniformed men were seen at the spot of killing. Police and paramilitary forces have cordoned off the entire area. Investigation is on and further details are still awaited.

Rohtak Police arrest three accused in Rohtak eve teasing case

Rohtak, Dec 01 (ANI): Rohtak Police arrested three men for harassing two college going girls inside a Haryana Roadways bus. The three men - Kuldeep Singh, Mohit and Deepak - were arrested on Sunday night by the Haryana police. Amateur video footage shot by a passenger shows the women apparently fighting with three men on board the bus while other passengers watch. Meanwhile, state Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar said that the girls were an inspiration to everyone and offered a cash reward to both of them. Earlier, Women rights activists lauded the two girls in rare show of courage.

Police arrest hardcore Maoist in red corridor of Jharkhand

Giridih, Nov 30 (ANI): The state police arrested a hardcore Maoist and recovered explosives along with arms and ammunition in Jharkhand. Acting on a tip-off, the Giridih police sent a team to hunt the dreaded Maoist and nabbed him immediately. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Giridih, Kranti Kumar said that the nabbed Maoist had been identified as Dinesh Manjhi and was a hardcore leader and platoon commander of a Maoist organization in Jharkhand. The Maoist was pasting posters for boycotting the state elections. He had been involved in many Naxal incidents of Jharkhand. Explosives, materials for making bomb and arms have been obtained from the Maoist. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.

Hundreds march in New Delhi for gay pride

New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Hundreds of people danced, sang and cheered in a gay pride parade in New Delhi, the first since the Supreme Court reinstated a ban on gay sex in the country. Participants chanting "Azaadi" (freedom) and shouting slogans such as "I'm gay, that's OK" carried banners and placards demanding their right to love. Some participants said that they had little faith that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government would revoke Section 377. A poster at the parade depicted PM Modi's face filled in with the colours of the rainbow along with the caption "I love Amit Shah".

One dead as supporters of TMC and BJP clash in West Bengal

Birbhum, Dec 01 (ANI): A clash broke out between supporters of Trinamool Congress (TMC) party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, killing one and injuring two others. The clash started over the issue of water supply in a paddy field in Baruipara village in Birbhum district. Police rushed to the area and started patrolling to check people from further conflicting. Earlier this month, TMC supporters had clashed with workers of BJP's youth wing in Jalpaiguri district after the BJP had called a 12-hour strike to support demands of tea garden employees for raising wages.

India-China-Bangladesh-Myanmar corridor to boost trade, says Bangladesh PM's energy advisor

Palatana, Dec 1 (ANI): Prime Minister's energy affairs adviser Tawfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury said that India-China-Bangladesh-Myanmar economic corridor was planned to boost trade and economic co-operation in the region. Chowdhury said it was discussed at South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Nepal last week. Chowdhury said India and Bangladesh would further come closer under the leadership of two prime ministers in the fields of connectivity, energy, trade and business sectors.

Manohar Parrikar says soldiers more important than weapons

Panaji, Dec 1 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the soldiers are more important than the weapons they carry, while addressing a news briefing in Goa. Meanwhile, Parrikar also vouched for better support to soldiers by providing them with proper family accommodation, which can solve the problem of isolation. Social activists demand apology from America for Bhopal gas tragedy

Bhopal, Dec 1 (ANI): Social activists demanded immediate scientific assessment of environmental pollution caused by the Bhopal gas tragedy three decades back. Social activist Satinath Sarangi said that a scientific assessment of air, water and ground quality should be done to address the situation. Sarangi added that the waste should be removed and disposed of away from the area, and feel that authorities, who now own the site, have fumbled on taking action. Sarangi even demanded an apology from the government of America and extradition of John Macdonald, secretary of Union Carbide.
