This came a fortnight after he revealed that he bribed officials to get his work done. Reactions flow as Centre allows Agustawestland to do business with India

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Political leaders reacted on Saturday as the Central government has given permission to Agustawestland and Finmeccanica to do business with India, although in a limited capacity. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that the government should not have continued the deal as previous results have shown the companies to be corrupt but added that the government must have done so with a point of view. Normalcy returns to violence hit Assam_s Golaghat

Golaghat, Aug 23 (ANI): Normalcy returned to violence-hit Golaghat district of Assam as residents came out of their houses to buy essential commodities on Saturday. Assam and neighbouring Nagaland are locked in a territorial dispute, claiming tracts of land along the state limits since the creation of Nagaland more than four decades ago. The latest wave of violence has left at least 20 dead and forced thousands to flee their homes. Vehicles were plying on road and shops were opened as the local authorities have lifted curfew in the district. Indian Army and militants locked in fierce gun battle in Kupwara

Kupwara, Aug 23 (ANI): Fierce gun battle is going on between Indian army and militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Acting on an intelligence input, soldiers launched a search operation in Gugerpati area to nab ultras on Friday evening. The extremists hiding in the area opened fire at soldiers, leading to exchange of fire. Militants have been frequently attacking security bases in Kashmir since the 1990s, when there was a full-blown insurgency against Indian rule in a region over which India and Pakistan fought two of their three wars. Oommen Chandy ready to compensate on revenue loss to Kerala due to liquor ban

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 23 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said ban on liquor policy in the state can prove to be a loss to the government but he is willing to overcome it. The Congress-led government in Kerala announced on Thursday that it would make Kerala alcohol-free in the next 10 years. The proposal was taken at a two-hour meeting at the chief minister’s residence. Chandy said the new policy will be applicable for the five-star hotels serving liquor from the next fiscal. Chandy added the policy will be submitted to the Kerala High Court on August 26. Chandy said the ban could cause three-fold problems to the state. Arun Jaitley commissions INS Kamorta

Vishakhapatnam, Aug 23 (ANI): Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday commissioned India's first indigenously-built stealth anti-submarine warfare INS Kamorta at naval dockyard in Vishakhapatnam. Jaitley also received the guard of honour at the event. The warship has been built by the state-owned Gardenreach Shipbuilders in Kolkata and is the first vessel in the Navy whose all weapon systems are manufactured indigenously.
