Devyani Khobragade didn't speak about or against Govt, says father

Mumbai, Maharashtra, Dec 20 (ANI): Devyani Khobragade's father Uttam Khobragade on Saturday said that the government officials can talk to the press without the permission of government and that such an action won't violate any civil service rule. Defending his daughter Devyani, Uttam Khobragade said that the government official cannot criticize any government policy while talking to press and Devyani didn't speak about or against government. Reportedly, Ministry of External Affairs has stripped Devyani Khobragade of her duties after she spoke to NDTV about her arrest and strip search in the US.

PM Modi tops global leaders' list according to Harvard Study

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): According to a study by Harvard University, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tops the list of global leaders with reference to the developmental issues took up by him. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the foreign studies hold no meaning because decision of development is actually taken by the people of the country. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that Harvard has not considered all facts before study as no development has taken place in last 6 months of PM Modi's rule. JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that such studies are not trustworthy. Meanwhile, BJP leader Sambit Patra said that the leaders of Opposition should learn from these studies as PM Modi is being appreciated worldwide for the development issues raised by him.

Sarpanch shot dead by militants in Sopore

Sopore, Dec 20 (ANI): A village sarpanch was shot dead by suspected militants in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday. The sarpanch, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, was shot dead when polling was on for the fifth and final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Bhat succumbed to his bullet injuries while being shifted to the hospital. An FIR has been registered in the case and investigation has been initiated to identify the culprit. In Jammu and Kashmir, the voting is taking place for 20 assembly seats in border districts of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri. There are 213 candidates in the fray in this phase.

Jammu and Kashmir, Dec 20 (ANI): In the ongoing polling for fifth phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leaders stood in long queues outside polling stations to cast their vote. Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh was seen waiting for his turn to cast his vote. Jitendra Singh said that there is a great enthusiasm among voters and also urged all people to cast their vote. Also, BJP candidate in the elections, Lal Singh cast his vote. Singh said that people should vote for development of the state.

Dumka, Dec 20 (ANI): Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday cast his vote. Soren after casting his vote said that Jharkhand is his home. At least five patients loose eyesight after operation in Himachal Pradesh

Kangra, Dec 20 (ANI): At least five patients have lost their eyesight after operation at a free eye surgery camp in Himachal Pradesh, said a probing official. The Himachal Pradesh government has set up an inquiry commission under Doctor SK Sharma, to conduct speedy probe into the incident in Kangra district. Sharma said the operation took place in Pathankot town of neighbouring state of Punjab at a private hospital. Nearly 60 people underwent cataract surgeries at the camp. The mishandled surgeries at the eye camp were discovered when patients came to a government office asking for medicine and financial help.

Reactions flow as MEA strips Devyani Khobragade of diplomatic charge

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Reactions flowed on Saturday after MEA stripped Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade of her duties as Director in the Development Partnership Division for making unauthorized statements in the media. Congress leader Manish Tewari accused the BJP government of double speak and not taking a decision in favour of Devyani as they supported her as Opposition during previous government. JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that MEA should understand what problems Khobragade had to face in USA. Meanwhile, Security Expert Rajiv Dogra said that Devyani issue can be viewed from various angles, one of them being that USA government did not behave well with her. Khobragade has been placed under a ‘compulsory wait’. The vigilance case against her is underway on charges that she had failed to disclose that her husband is a US citizen and that she has got US passports for her two children.

Post Peshawar attack, MHA issues guidelines to schools over security; politicos react

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): The Union Home Ministry has issued fresh guidelines to schools across the country over security measures, days after militants in Peshawar killed 132 innocent school children. The fresh Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools issued by the MHA has advisory such as concrete boundary walls with at least three to four gates and three telephone lines at the main gate. The SOP also says that telephone number of nearest police station and PCR van should be displayed prominently in schools. It also emphasized on giving importance to CCTV cameras and alarm system.
