New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal, on Wednesday said that rescue operations in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir may bridge the gap between army and people. Rising death toll in Kashmir and worst floods in 60 years submerged villages and destroyed crops as the number of dead hit 420 and thousands remained trapped on rooftops. The Indian air force, army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are carrying out extensive rescue operations in the state. Soldiers rescued families using boats or airlifted them from rooftops by helicopter after the river Jhelum burst its banks in Srinagar, but many more remained stranded. Bridge constructed by Army in Jammu brings respite to flood- hit area

Jammu, Sep 10 (ANI): The Army in Jammu built a temporary bridge linking flood- ravaged villages to the city, providing relief to the people after the region's worst floods for 50 years destroyed a number of key crossings and wreaked havoc in the area. Due to heavy floods the bridge on river Tawi was completely damaged. Nearly 45000 people living in about 45 villages in the surrounding area were cut off from the city. The Army and Air Force dropped relief material in the area, while Army boats helped people to commute to the other side of the river.
