Charges framed against 10 individuals and 9 companies for money laundering in 2G case

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): A special court on Friday framed charges against former Telecom Minister A Raja, MP Kanimozhi, DMK Supremo M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal and others for money laundering in a 2G scam-related case. All accused have pleaded not guilty. ED had chargesheeted 19 accused - 10 individuals and nine companies - in the case saying that the transaction of Rs 200 crore, which was allegedly paid to DMK-run Kalaignar TV, was "not genuine" and it was a "bribe for grant of telecom licences to DB Group companies". The accused had countered the claims of the ED contending there was no evidence to support the allegations levelled by the agency in its charge sheet. Oct 31, 2014

Maharashtra CM designate Fadnavis participates in 'Run for Unity' event

Seven-storey building collapses in Pune, several feared trapped

Pune, Oct 31 (ANI): A 7-storey newly constructed building collapsed in Pune on Friday with several residents, including a child, feared trapped under the debris. Police rushed to the spot and officials started rescue operation at the venue. The building had 20 flats in which eight families were living. Currently, members of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade are trying to rescue one person. Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune, Chandrashekhar Daithankar said builder was taken into custody and the inquiry was going on. A resident of the collapsed building, Praveen Hegde said there were cracks and vibrations in the building the previous day. Oct 31, 2014

Six- year old allegedly raped twice by school teacher in Bangalore, accused detained

Bangalore, Oct 31 (ANI): In another such case of crime against children, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Hindi teacher on the campus of her private school in Bangalore. The police have detained a 40-year-old suspect who is the victim's teacher in connection with the case. He added that there was only one CCTV camera on the campus and a complaint has also been filed against the school for not complying with safety guidelines issued by police. However, Block Education Officer SM Ramesh said that said that the school followed the guidelines and is a state recognized institution. Reportedly, the victim had complained to her mother after the incident took place on Tuesday and again on Wednesday after which the mother approached the police seeking further help. Nation pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The nation is paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary on Friday. Congress Party President and Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi and members of her family were the first to reach Shakti Sthal, the memorial dedicated to Indira Gandhi to pay a floral tribute. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present at the venue. Other leaders and people from all walks of life are expected to follow. Indira Gandhi fell to assassins' bullets on this day in 1984 at her 1, Safdarjung Road residence in New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards more than four months after Operation Blue Star, which was launched on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. UK defence secy unveils plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers for bravery in World War I

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon in New Delhi unveiled plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers, who won Victoria Cross for their bravery during the World War I. Earlier, Fallon said his country would never forget enormous service rendered by Indian heroes while commemorating their contribution in the World War I under the United Kingdom's flag. India's Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said these plaques will be sent to hometowns of the soldiers. This year marks the centenary of World War I, which was fought between 1914 and 1918. The UK has funded a battlefield guide book that will be available for those families, who wish to visit France and Flanders battlefields. It has also sponsored table book giving a pictorial overview of India and the Great War, a part from it, digitising the war diaries of the Indian fighters. Oct 31, 2014

Manipur artisans work towards preserving traditional handicrafts

Manipur, Oct 31 (ANI): Forty seven years old Longjam Hemolata Devi, a weaver from Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi Chabungbam Leikai, is one of the few artisans involved in making Shaphee Lanphee- a rare traditional handicraft of Manipur embroidered with meaningful motifs. Hemolata has been working with dedication to promote the Shaphee Lanphee craft for years. To preserve the age old craft, she provides training to some local women in order to carry forward the legacy. All together 20 women are currently learning the art of Saphee Lanphee under Hemolata"s guidance. This traditional handloom product is intricately designed with different meaningful patterns. Earlier it was used as "Mana Phee" - a reward by the kings to brave soldiers as a token of honour after winning a battle.
