Cyclone alert for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh

Puri / Visakhapatnam, Oct 9 (ANI): The cyclonic storm Hudhud is getting closer to the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast leading to a cyclone warning for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and cyclone alert for north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. The government officials say adequate measures have been taken to tackle the situation and its aftermath. Cyclone Hudhud is moving in from the Bay of Bengal and is forecast to bring gales of up to 140 kmph (87 mph), heavy rains and storm surges when it hits the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 12 afternoon. However, the fishing community is scared as the government has not informed them of the approaching cyclone. According to an official of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Visakhapatnam, D Srinivasan, an alert has already been sounded in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Oct 9, 2014

Two die in building collapse in Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 8 (ANI): A building collapsed in Bangalore on early Thursday morning killing two, including a child. Residents of Ulsoor region, which is one of the oldest localities in Bangalore, woke up at 1.30 am to resounding crash of the building, which was weakened due to heavy rains. Authorities rushed to the spot and two people were rescued. The collapse also brought down an adjoining house. A resident, Geeta, said that the building was more than ten years old and was expected to fall any moment. India's UNICEF Ambassador Aamir Khan raises concerns about malnutrition in Nepal

Kapilvastu, Oct 09 (ANI): India's UNICEF ambassador and versatile Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan, raised concerns on the issue of malnutrition in Nepal as he met health workers and discussed their grievances on his three-day visit to the Himalayan nation. Khan said that UNICEF was keen that he should expand his responsibility not just as a national ambassador, but for the entire region of south Asia. During his stay, Khan visited various villages in Kapilvastu district to check the functioning of health facility centres and initiated awareness on the issue. Among the villages in the Kapilvastu district, he spent an hour in Pakadi village health centre and observed how the health workers screen children with malnutrition under factors of height, weight and other measurements. Bhutan King and Queen visit holy Buddhist shrine in Varanasi

Varanasi, Oct 09 (ANI): Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his wife Jetsun Pema recently visited the holy Buddhist site in temple town of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Wangchuck and his wife Pema planted a Bodhi sapling in the Sarnath temple of Varanasi and subsequently held prayers along with the Buddhist monks. A group of delegates from Bhutan also accompanied the royal couple. Another Buddhist monk, Bante Shivali said that people from across the world visit Sarnath which is spiritually significant.
