Cyclone Hudhud hammers Vizag before lashing heavy rains in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Oct 13 (ANI): After leaving at least five people dead and a trail of destruction in the port city of Visakhapatnam and adjoining districts of Odisha, rains lashed Jharkhand in the wake of Cyclone Hudhud, after it made landfall earlier on Sunday. Cyclone Hudhud blasted eastern seaboard with gusts of up to 195 km per hour (over 120 mph), uprooting trees, damaging buildings and killing at least five people despite a major evacuation effort. Visakhapatnam was hammered as the cyclone made landfall, unleashing the huge destructive force it had sucked up from the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal. Most people heeded warnings to take refuge, but five were killed by falling trees and masonry, and thousands of homes were damaged, emergency officials said. Strong winds and heavy rains lashed Jharkhand on Sunday night because of which electric poles and trees were destroyed in the interior of the state. Model hospitals being constructed to boost rural healthcare in Assam

Jorhat, Oct 13 (ANI): The Saraibahi area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Titabor sub-division of Assam's Jorhat District, comprises nearly 25 villages with a total population of over 40000. Most of these villages have to depend on a few dispensaries for their basic healthcare needs. However, the construction of a new model hospital under the National Rural Health Mission has come as a big relief, as people do not have to go to big towns anymore to avail better treatment. The basic objective of constructing such model hospitals in the state is to provide quality healthcare facilities to people residing in the remote areas. The Government of Assam is trying to provide better healthcare facilities to people residing in rural and interior areas by establishing model hospitals. It has decided to construct 55 new model hospitals under the National Rural Health Mission. Around 35 hospitals have already started functioning. There are 4 model hospital in Jorhat one is already completed and 3 more are still under construction. These hospitals with a capacity of 30 beds will be equipped with all the modern amenities as per the Indian Public Health Standard. Oct 13, 2014

At least 22 school children injured in bus accident in Jaipur

Jaipur, Oct 13 (ANI): At least 22 school children were injured when a bus carrying them turned turtle in Jaipur, said a senior police officer. The accident happened when the bus carrying 57 children for a picnic on the outskirts of city of Jaipur tumbled. No causalities have been reported till now but condition of three children is critical. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karan Singh, said the cause of accident was under investigation. Two injured in India Pakistan firing

India makes efforts to send back Pakistani national who crossed border mistakenly

Jammu, Oct 12 (ANI): Officials of paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) are making constant efforts to send back a Pakistani national who had crossed the border mistakenly and was caught in Jammu region. A resident of Lahore, the old man had come towards Indian side to collect some medicines but was caught by BSF personnel in the wake of exchange of gunfire along the de facto border with Pakistan. BSF has been maintaining a high-alert along the India-Pakistan international border following the recent gun shelling. Deputy Inspector General of BSF, BS Kasane, said the old man has been identified as Mohammad Nadeer and has proved to be innocent after intense investigation was conducted against him. At least 4 people died in cyclone hudhud, PM has assured all help: N Chandrababu Naidu

Hyderabad, Oct 12 (ANI): After chairing a high level meeting, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said that at least four people are reported dead while death of two is confirmed. Naidu said that the authorities are not able to assess wind speed as they have lost communications and that the situation is serious in 3-4 districts of the state. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all cooperation and are arrangements are made so that quick action will be taken to tackle the cyclone. Velocity of Cyclone Hudhud has come down to 90 100 kmph, 3 casualties reported: Ajit Seth

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): After heading meeting with National Crisis Management Committee on Sunday, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth said that the velocity of Cyclone Hudhud has come down to 90-100 kmph. He said that the casualty reported is three and has not increased till now. He said that there has been physical damage of mobile communication, electricity lines and roads for whose construction and relief, central government will provide with all possible help. He also said that as far as Andhra Pradesh is concerned, quick assessment will be done and restoration process will start after that.
