Malkangiri, Sep 19 (ANI): Police gunned down a Maoist, who had a bounty of rupees 400 thousand on his head, during a fierce battle in Malkangiri district of Odisha. The Maoist has been identified as Erra Madkami alias Sundhi Dalai. Acting on a tip-off, District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel launched a combing operation and also recovered arms and ammunition. Inspector General of Police, Yashwant Jethwa said that exchange of fire took place in the forest area near a village. The police recovered a sten gun, a 303 rifle, kitbag, posters, banners, Maoist literature, medicines, and other materials during search operation. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.
