Odisha, Sep 05 (ANI): Following an exchange of fire, police destroyed three camps and recovered a cache of arms and other items during clashes with Maoists in the red corridor of Odisha. The Koraput and Malkangiri police initiated a joint operation and raided the forest area near Majhiguda village where the camps were operated by a Maoist organisation. Inspector General of Police, Yashwant Jethwa, said on Friday that the raid was a success. No loss of life has been reported although it is believed that some Maoists might have sustained injuries during the encounter. Jethwa also added that the camps were used as a connecting link with Maoists of other states. The Maoists managed to escape after the gun battle. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.
