During his Mann Ki Baat radio show on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the citizens of the country to let go of cash transactions and embrace the digital payment system to curb corruption and hoarding of black money.
In that order, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) via social media platforms has now kicked off a promotional campaign -- My Mobile... My Bank... My Wallet. It details ways to transact digitally with mobile phones.
Here's how to transact without cash:
Unified Payment Interface (UPI)-
Step 1: Register your mobile number at bank/ATM
Step 2: Download the UPI app on your smartphones
Step 3: Create your unique ID
Step 4: Set your UPI pin and you are set go. Users can transfer amount to other's bank account and also make purchases also.
Choose any of the third-party or e-wallet apps or your registered bank's apps available on Google Play and Apple App store
Step 1: Download an e-wallet app like SBI Buddy
Step 2: Register it with your mobile number
Step 3: Link this app with your debit/debit card or through net banking and you are good to go
Use Debit/Credit Cards via Point of Sale (PoS) machines-
Step 1: Just swipe your debit/credit card on PoS machine
Step 2: Type in PIN number
Step 3: Transaction gets completed with the generation of receipt on the PoS machine
Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)-
Step 1: Link your mobile number to your bank account
Step 2: Dial *99# from your phone
Step 3: Fill in the first 3 letters of your bank against Short Name or first 4 letters of Indian Financial System Code (IFSC)
Step 4: Select "Fund Transfer-MMID" option
Step 5: Enter the payee's mobile number and MMID
Step 6: Enter the amount and your MPIN, leave a space and enter the last four digits of your account number. And, the money will be credited to the receiver within minutes.
Aadhar-enabled payment system-
Citizens just need to register their Aadhar ID in banks to carry out fund transfer, balance enquiry, cash deposit/withdrawal and inter-bank transactions. This service has also been made available in shops across the country.
