The first look of Coco, Pixar's next original film, has been revealed and it has garnered acclaim in social media as Pixar's first musical film.

It was first announced back in 2012 as an untitled project. Coco Director Lee Unkrich (who helmed Pixar classics like Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc.) seems to be really excited about the final outcome for the project, while announcing on Twitter. He writes: "After five years working on Coco, I'm thrilled to finally make some announcements! #PixarCoco"

Coco's voice casts:

Coco's main character, Miguel, will be voiced by twelve-year-old newcomer Anthony Gonzales. Miguel's idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, will be voiced by Benjamin Bratt. Gael Garcial Bernal will be voicing Hector and Renee Victor voicing Miguel's grandmother, Abuelita.

Regarding Coco's voice casts, Unkrich told EW, "It was important to us from day one that we had an all-Latino cast. It focused us, and we ended up with a fantastic mix of people — some from Mexico and some from Los Angeles."

"We actually had another kid doing scratch for Miguel who's now 17 or 18, which should tell you how long we've been working on the movie, but his voice changed long ago, and it was actually in trying to find a new voice for the scratch that we found Anthony."

Coco's official synopsis:

"Despite his family's baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colourful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history. Character actress Renée Victor also joins the cast as Abuelita, Miguel's grandmother."

Written and co-directed by Adrian Molina, Coco opens in theatres November 22, 2017. In the meantime, Pixar is working on Cars 3 (releasing June 16,2017), The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4.
