Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 66th birthday was celebrated with grand gestures across the country. From schoolchildren to Bharatiya Janata Party workers, everyone took part in the festivities.

The prime minister began his day by meeting his mother in Gujarat. He also shared images of time spent with his mother on social media. 

PM Modi is in Gujarat to announce irrigation projects worth Rs 3,800 crore.

In Gujarat's Navsari district, people tried to make a record out of lighting 989 lamps simultaneously on the eve of PM Modi's birthday. The event made into the Guinness World Records.

Sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik made a sand sculpture in Odisha's Puri district highlighting PM Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

In Gujarat's Surat district, fans of the Indian leader made a cake weighing 3,750kg to make a record for the world's biggest cake.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chauhan spent the day with disabled children to celebrate PM Modi's birthday.
