El Nino Dries up Monsoon, Rainfall Dips in India

As feared, there has been nearly an 11% deficit in monsoon rainfall across the country as the vital four-month-long rain cycle enters its last leg. Barring regions like West Rajasthan (57%), Gangetic West Bengal (25%), West MP (22%), Arunachal Pradesh (12%), Jammu and Kashmir (9%), which saw some excess rainfall, most other parts recorded a fall in monsoon rain in about three months. Marathwada (-50%), Central Maharashtra (-40%), most parts of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab and Haryana were among the regions/states that saw a sharp dip in rainfall this monsoon.
