Though CBS' sci-fi drama "Person of Interest" concluded with Season 5, fans couldn't help noticing several hints in the season finale that might tease a possible continuation of the story.

"Person of Interest" is undoubtedly a favourite with fans, who had received the news of its end with much dismay. They had even tried to save the show through an online petition when it was announced that the series will be cancelled after the fifth season. However, much to their disappointment, the network decided to end the show after Season 5.

Recently, Jonathan Nolan, the creator of the series, discussed the possibility of the story going further and whether it could be continued in a spin-off series.

Season 5 finale ended with a cliffhanger, offering hope to the fans that the story of the team Machine is not over yet. As reported by Cinema Blend, the scene where Shaw was seen smiling over a phone call teased that there was more to the story left untold.

According to Parent Herald, Nolan confirmed that there was a reason behind Shaw's smile in the finale of the fifth season. However, he also hinted that it was not a hint at all that the story is going to be continued in another season.

"I think [the smile] is much about hearing Root's voice," said Nolan, "But the clear implication is that that relationship continues in its new form — and that the franchise continues."

Though Nolan has made it clear that there won't be a Season 6, several fans remain optimistic regarding the future of the show and an ongoing petition on Change.org is still being circulated on the internet in the hopes of getting the show renewed for another season.

Parent Herald has reported that the petition has already got over 47,000 supporters and fans are trying to rope in streaming networks such as Netflix or Amazon to revive "Person of Interest."
