A Pakistani prisoner has been attacked by a former Indian Army soldier at the high security Kot Bhalwal jail on the outskirts of Jammu.

The attacked prisoner has been identified as Rana Sanaullah, a 65-year-old native of Sialkot who was imprisoned for more than 15 years. Reports said that he suffered serious head injuries in the attack and been moved to Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu. Doctors said he is critical and is in a coma.

"He was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu. He has suffered serious head injuries and was in a coma and has been admitted in the ICU," Zee News reported.

The attack took place at a time when the country is outraged over the death of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner who died on Thursday following a brutal attack in a Pakistani jail.

Pakistan authorities handed over Sarabjit's body to his family in India. The funeral rites will be performed on Friday.
