A Pakistan International Airlines plane with 47 people on board crashed on Wednesday en route to Islamabad from Chitral. According to several reports in the Pakistani media, pop star-turned-evangelical preacher Junaid Jamshed was also feared to have died in the crash.

The plane crashed in a village near the mountainous north of the town of Havelian. Jamshed's wife and child is also suspected to be on board the Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-661.

Although there has not been any official confirmation yet about the list of passengers and casualties in the accident, many close associates of the Pakistani artist have said that Junaid Jamshed was indeed on board the plane and is now feared dead.

It was earlier reported that the concerned flight had lost contact with the control room soon after its take-off from Chitral airport. Now, a report in Dawn confirmed that the PK-661 crashed near Abbottabad due to engine issues.

The report also said that sources from Chitral airport confirmed that Pakistani singer Junaid Jamshed and Deputy Commissioner Umar Waraich were among the passengers and have likely died in the crash.

The plane had departed at around 3.30 pm and was scheduled to reach Benazir Bhutto International airport in Islamabad at around 4.40 pm.

Meanwhile, fans of Junaid Jamshed have been expressing their concern for Junaid Jamshed on Twitter. While many close aides of the famous personality have been confirming that Junaid Jamshed was indeed in the flight, some others have been praying for his well-being.
